I rode the bike to SC this weekend to spend some time with high school friends I hadn't seen in years. Because I don't care for riding on I-95, I took back roads to get there. Google Maps put me on some roads I didn't even know existed. Anyway, I had to ride through a little town named Cheraw, SC. This is the birthplace and home of Dizzie Gellespie until his family moved in 1935. I had no idea he was from there.

I paid for college by playing brass (trumpet & Flugel horn) in a 10 piece jazz band. Love jazz!
And Dizzy was a hoot! lol

I thought it was a nice tribute to him. The statue was downtown. Here are a couple more pics of the birthplace area.



There were several benches like the one pictured and they all had his name cut into them in some fashion. Like I said, a neat tribute.
