New noise- Squeal
I know a lot of you are gone to Custer, but for those of you who are still around.
This is a squealing sound (almost like an alternator belt) when giving throttle. Sounds like straight below, can't tell if left or right. Checked all the usual suspects and rattles spots. Clutch was slipping @ 3k, plates and fabrics "looked" fine (didn't mic or stack steels) suspected spring and just ordered Judges washers and Meanstreak spring. Just came from dealer, & he said clutch was gone @ 5K! They want to break it down and check steels. I'm ready to raise hell w/ Kawasaki. Ideas? suggestions? Thanks! Login or Register to Remove Ads |

I don't know what the squeel would be, maybe a water pump? or Fuel pump, the clutch plates and discs are easy to measure, since you already have the old spring off, although it is very unlikely that they will need to be replaced.

With 45000km on the clock, the last 8000 or so hauling about 800kg (me and the missus and a fully loaded bike and trailer) my clutch has only just started to slip at high speed. So 5K is no where near worn in, let alone worn out.
Dont let Kawasaki BS you by telling you your clutch plates are a normal wear and tear item, and not covered by warranty. Read your warranty, and it states normal wear and tear items are not covered by warranty, but go down the path that premature wear is NOT normal, so therefore is not excluded under warranty. I had a similar issue with a set of steering head bearings needing replacement at 24000km. I was told they wernt covered as they were normal wear and tear items. When I pointed out the service schedule only called for inspection and if needed, lubrication, of the bearings, and not replacement, I advised them that as far as I was concerned, they were abnormally worn out. It took a bit of argueing, but in the end, they coughed up for new bearings. I can provide a link to the thread where this issue was discussed, with copies of the emails between myself and Kawasaki Australia, if so desired. Cheers Bundy |
