This thing is leaking oil everywhere.
I've put less then 20 miles on my Nomad and its dropping oil all over my garage.
The guy that sold it to me had no oil in his garage (I looked) and it sat for two days after I bought it because I didn't have time to ride it.. It didn't lose a drop of oil during that time. 20 miles and it's leaking like a Harley.. Is this a chronic problem? Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Recent oil change? (oil filter, drain plug snug)
Any other info on location (besides the garage) where the leak may be from. engine lower, upper, rear end, etc. Help us help you.

Did the oil just get changed? Check the drain plug. The stock plug should have an aluminum gasket on it. Could be loose or missing the gasket. I found this out by the dealership leaving it off and mine leaked oil too. Becareful torquing down the drain plug if it is leaking. Check the owner's manual for the torque spec.; should be around 14.5 ft/lbs or 2.0 kg-m. It is better to change the oil through the oil screen plug. It can be seen behind the kickstand. Repeat after me "Nomads don't have chronic problems".

Yes, it was just serviced about 50 miles ago.
You're probably right, It's probably a lose plug or filter. I was so angry when I saw the oil that I wasn't thinking that rationally. In the morning I will give everything a good snugging up. Thanks! |

Keeping in mind that I am new to the Nomad, can someone tell me where the filter and oil plugs are so I can check them? The oil seems to be coming from right behind the kick stand. Login or Register to Remove Ads |

definately check your oil plugs. there is one under the pan and one on the side of the pan by the sidestand. also, not that you are gonna have any problems, but a service manual is money well spent. especially if you are gonna do any maintenance or wrenching yourself

When checking the oil filter, dont use any tools to tighten it on. Just SNUG it up with your hand. If you dont, it will be on so tight by your next oil change that you will spend a long time trying to get it off. When I first got my bike I broke two filter wrenches and had to stab the filter with a screwdriver to get it off. Others have had to cut them off. Now I can usually remove and replace the filter by hand, and never have a leak.

A hearty AMEN to that Ringadingh! I had my bike in for the infamous 600-mile checkup, and while very courteous and friendly and they washed the bike for me, the oil filter was so unmercifully tight it was unbelievable. I understand some folks being nervous about it coming lose, but it doesn't need to be installed with a !$@#^%# air wrench.

Except for the things mentioned, no it is not a common problem. I've never seen a drop of oil from my two Vulcans in 10 years.

My bike has never leaked a drop of oil in 22,000 miles that I am aware of.
If you do your own work, ie: change your own oil - I will tell you that my dealer replaces the drain plug gasket with every oil change. It is part #92065-097.

Oil filters should be put on loosely. Using maybe only half your one hand's twisting force. Mine is just tight enough to not leak. It's never leaked yet.

they could have not put a new crush washer on your drain plug? or stripped your threads on the drain plug like they did my bro's.

As best I can see it's dripping from the bottom of the chrome cover on the kickstand side. I haven't found where the drain plug is. The filter seems to be snug. |

That might not be engine oil. You might have a leaky clutch pushrod seal. Check the color and smell of that oil and compare it to motoroil. If it (oil) looks a lot different in color and smell then it's hydraulic fluid leaking from this seal. You'll have to pull the chrome cover off to verify which is real easy.
