Whole Other Reality

After a week and a half on the road, with nothing but Sun and wind all day and camping most nights, I always seem to be in a whole other reality. Have you ever lived a road trip and experienced something like this ... It's early morning, about nine days and 3000 miles of back road wondering behind you. You wake up just before dawn. It's cool, but not cold. Every now and then, you can almost see your breath. The ground, your tent and motorcycle are covered with dew. You're the only one awake in the campground. You're barefoot, blue jeans are four days old, and the T-shirt you slept in is earthy, but oh so comfortable. It's good for just another day. You decide to break camp quietly to preserve the solitude, Before having a shower to clear the sleep and aches from your body, you roll your sleeping bag. Pack your T-bag, leaving out your towel and toothbrush. You strike down your tent. Shake the moisture off preparing to roll and pack the tent away. At least twice, you break from your early morning toil, to sit on the picnic bench and listen to the almost perfect quiet that surrounds you. Your Nomad is almost fully loaded. But you stop again to watch the beauty that is the morning's first light. Still, no one stirs in the campground. You stroll barefoot, slushing across the dew soaked grass to the showers. Just before 6 AM, you push your motorcycle just far enough down the path so as not to disturb those who have missed the best part of the morning. By the highway you let the engine idle, do one last check. Then with the rising sun low in the sky, you leisurely ride down the road in search of morning coffee .

Yeah ... It's still winter ...

ooohhhh, now I REALLY want to ride! You painted a beautiful picture with words, very nice Emu. It reminds of the promise of a new day and what it will bring. No better way to venture forth than on your trusty iron stead.

That was sweet, I could even smell the morning, and the natural outdoors. Less than 4 more weeks to the season's first bike rally for me, Ahhhh, that was nice and gives me even more spring fever.

Yeah... It's still winter.

Another one of my favourite morning smells and tastes is having partly burnt toast with coffee purculated over a coleman stove using Naphta gas. You know the one you got to pump up to get going. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM :)

You got me all worked up now EMU.

Your story sounds like most days on the road for me when travelling. It makes me wonder why the heck most riders stay in motels? Most of my buddies stay in motels..they get on the road around 9 am..then ride like crazy to make time..but have to look for a motel by 4pm so they can get one? They think I'm crazy for camping..Bdog

You just gave me the shakes~~~~~~~~~~~~~~probably another month to "maybe" ride and at least 3 month to road trip~~~~~~~~~~~~~boy, do I need a ride, hopefully a safe one; there's pot holes here that will swallow a Nomad. :'(

Thanks, Emu, you probably just made these next three days waiting to get my first motorcycle (Nomad, of course), the longest three days of my life! But that was beautiful.

I've done a few 6000 mile round trips, but I'll wake up under them thick feather quilts at the Holiday Inn Express, free ready made breakfast and ready for another 750 mile day.around the last 50 miles I cell phone the ole lady and and she makes res at the next Holiday inn Express. Life is good

That will be this summer. I guarantee it. Nothing better than Ann's coffee and homemade breakfast over a campfire. Two of my favorite things all rolled into one. Motorcycle camping is the best of everything. You ride, then camp, then ride some more, then camp again.

Great story - I could really visualize that!
