Poor gas mileage?

Just a little over a month ago i bought a left over 2014 vaquero. I've got just over 1200 miles on it now and the most i can get is about 33 miles per gallon. That seems pretty low to me. I really dont know what the specs are... Shes completely stock. What are you guys getting?

You need to roll on more miles before it comes to life. Wait till your up around 2500 or so then you'll see better mileage. I'm at 4000 now and getting 43-45 consistently and the bike runs way smoother and has better power delivery. Oh yeh welcome to the group!

Yes average was way low to what I thought it should be around 29 to 31. The more miles you get the better it will become, it will top out around 42-45 seems to be the norm. Currently my bike is completely back to stock and I'm getting right at 43.7 and actual mileage (math) is a little higher.

I am at 12000 miles on my Nomad and I still only get mid 30s for mileage. I just installed an EJK, so I am anxious to see how that plays into the mileage.

Ironically by adding a little fuel the bike increased in MPGs. I had a good experience witht the
EJK and improved gas mileage. I am getting about the same MPGs with the PCV instslled now, but I seem to twist the throttle a bit more , so not as high as it could be, but the grin on my face makes up for it..

On my Voyager the mileage increased as the miles went on. Between 5,000 to 10,000 kms the bike ran better, gas mileage improved and it ran cooler.

Unlike everyone else here I get the same mileage as you are. My vaquero and old nomad get low 30's. I even have gotten 29 mpg but I was really hard on the throttle. The bike has a EPA rating of 36mpg. To me your mileage is normal.

I did in the beginning. Getting around 36 to 38 now, but it really varies depending on driving conditions. Strong head winds, hills...80 on the freeway is bad.

Bottom line, these bikes get crap fuel mileage compared to most big touring bikes. They all have their issues, this is ours.

Ever since my low fuel light episode I have been logging the distance to the low fuel light to keep better track. Full tank (to the metal plate) im getting 160 to 170 miles to the low fuel light. Doing the math on that range and gallons to fill back up (about 3.7) that is putting the bike right in the mid 40's on fuel mileage. Regardless of the mileage indicated the math don't lie so it could be the riding style has a huge difference in the final count. I'm a backroads rider and never above 60-65 mph and never on the interstate.

When I stay close to home I get mid 40's or better. When I travel to Biloxi my mileage drops into the mid 30's. In Kentucky get low 40's. I run 91 octane fuel or higher. I know some say the lower octane works, just did not for me. The guys on the HD's I ride with see about the same mileage I did at the time.

Hell my display actually showed 37.0 mpg today..... Wonder if it will climb higher? being I got the bike with 17k on it and the display then shown like 32. something it climbed to 36.2-3 then was stuck there till I reset the fuel map . now its up to 37.0 , I wonder if unhooking the battery will reset everything ? don't really matter either way really? tank gets low fill it .

Ipack - have you reset the Avg MPG on the bike display? although, at least on mine, the display cannot be truly trusted to give you very accurate MPG, it does indicate if it's going up or down. By resetting it, you will have a little better clue on what it is doing. (that way it is not factoring in a long history of traveling with current day of riding)
