shock settings--Question

Question

So I was taking my bags off and on to put the sissy bar on for the old lady, and I noticed the back shocks have a setting of some kind? Now Im sure most of you guys know about this, & cause Im a "newbie" could someone please enlighten me???

thanks -G-

BTW- As it sits the setting the previous owner has it set on what looks like 3 marks...and it has a car tire on it (dark side, or whatever you guys call it)LOL

what do u mean 25lbs? Is there a way to put air in them or something? Or is that the tire pressure your running? Finally if thats the tire psi, than do you have a car tire back there?

I believe the little dial adjusts the rebound rate. Yes, if you have the stock Nomad shocks, they are air adjustable for height/firmness of ride.

Do nut use a gas station air line to put air in the shocks. Use a zero loss pump as sold by Progressive or Harley.

Just try them on different settings, make sure you have both sides the same markings. Try it on #1 for awhile, stop and put on #2, etc. Find one you like.

CJ is correct, it has to do with rebound I believe.

The little dial is the rebound damper.

MAX psi is 43 in each shock.

I run mine on #2 setting and 22 lbs of air in each shock.
When riding double or loaded for a trip i set the damper on 3 sometimes 4.

Try all the damper settings until you find what you like.

Only use a zero loss shock pump or you will blow the seal right out of the shock!!!!

Assuming this is for real, I is as soft a return for shock oil as these shocks can do. IIII is as stiff as you can do. II and III are inbetween. This if for setting the bike to be softer or harder suspention rides.

Yes you caqn add Max psi of 43 psi to each shock with a hand pump. Guys run anything from 0 to 43 psi. Most guys run something between 10 psi and 30.

If you add air with a shop compressor or almost anything that boots psi up fast you will blow the shock seals and oil will go everywhere. Once this happens the shocks are dead forever. There is no parts and thus no fix.

Sounds good thxs guys

I would agree with the "feel of the ride"

The other day when I rode alone it seemed pretty bouncy -think it is on III
than when the old lady went riding with me it felt great and really hugged the road --LOL but thats another story --

thxs -G-

Yea you just have to try different settings and air pressure in the shocks. Like mentioned DO NOT use a Compressor to pump up the shocks, Get the 0 loos pump, From a local dealer,Harley shop or E Bay.. Most ar around 50$.. Also check out your local bicycle shop for a 0 loss pump aroud 25$ and E Bay
