Reckless Fairing wiring question

Just wondering how everyone is getting wiring into the back side of the fairing obvisously I could drill a whole and install a grommet, If anyone has a picture of how they did it, just curious what your all using. One more question are you all using scotch locks as a method of tapping into the taillight circuit or choosing the the cut and add a wire method, just concerned as scotch locks haven't been all that popular in the past for longevity or is there a new better product out there?

Reckless Fairing wiring question

Corey,

Look at the picture below, see the hole below and left of the stereo opening? that's where I ran the wiring into my fairing.

I have 6 wires going to a weatherproof 6-pole plug that connects the fairing to bike power. Besides powering the stereo, I also have a couple of switches to control driving lights, etc.

This photo shows the wires and the antenna cable locations:

I don't have the same stereo mounted in there anymore and I fabricated a beefier stereo support bracket, but it still looks essentially the same.

All my connections are soldered and shrink wrapped. I don't use Scotchlock connectors.

Reckless Fairing wiring question

Your a lot better off soldering and heat shrinking your connections. Scotch loks are asking for problems later on.

Reckless Fairing wiring question

Solder and heat shrink, the only way to go. I also used a rubber shock mount, the kind with threaded studs on both ends and a metal "L" bracket to support the rear of my stereo unit. This will take a bunch of pressure off the fairing at the front mounting of the stereo. Oh yeah, drill the hole and use a grommet.
