Kury Grips!

I will be installing new Kuryakyn ISO grips soon. Has anyone run into any issues while removing old, and installing new grips. and what was the part # that fit the bike on a Nomad 1700. Thanks!

Not too sure on the 1700, but on the 1600 the chrome end cap on the stock grips is reverse threaded. Keep that in mind while removing them.

When i purchased mine at Bob's in Cornwall, he installed them for me Couldn't tell you if it was hard to do ::)

If you are planing on going to a bike week somewhere, Kuryakyn usually install for free if you purchase directly from them

The stock grips should come off easily. You can slit them with a knife, but you'd destroy them if you thought you'd ever re-use them. Just make sure that any grip glue is removed before installing the Kury grips. Goo Gone or similar works well. Spray it on, by inserting the little straw tube that comes with it, or a can of WD40, in between the grip and the handlebar, let it sit a short while, then wipe off. The other method that works well is to fire up your air compressor and stick the tip in there and try to float the grip off the handlebar or throttle sleeve. Once dried, you can use some sand paper to smooth out the surfaces. Clean with some alcohol on a rag and you're ready to install the Kury grips.

The Kury grips come with a small tube of super glue. Be careful not to apply too much of the glue, especially on the throttle side, as you could inadvertently bond the throttle sleeve to the switch housing. It's a chore to fix that. Don't ask me how I know. It's a matter of a little dab will do ya. When you slide the grips on, do it all in one smooth motion, because if you pause, even for just a second, the glue will bond and you won't like the job of removing the grips and starting over. Wherever you stop is where the grip will stay.

Sounds like a bear, but really it's an easy job and only takes a few minutes and a little care. The Kury grips are nice. I've installed quite a few sets over the years. Liked 'em on my Gold Wings.

Installed the grips yesterday. The left hand grip end was hard to remove due to locktite on the end, but installation overall was quick and simple.

Glad the job was easy for you. Have you had a chance to ride with them yet, and if so, what do you think of them?

Have yet to ride with them (issue with road conditions in Canada this time of year). I had the Kury flame grips on my Suzuki C50 and just loved them. I expect the same performance with these.

With the stock grips my arm was going numb a bit. I put the Kury's on 9the regular set with the square pads) and no more problem. I have used em for 12,000k. Wouldnt have anything elee. I used the same kit as the 1600 and the 2000 takes came with a new throttle tube. Same exact throttle as my 2009 1700. They are a bit larger circumference and it took a few miles to get used to the throttle reaction being different as when you turn it what you used to you get more throttle now - I adapted quickly.
