06 Vulcan 1600 riser question?

A friend of mine rides a 2006 Vulcan Classic 1600. He is having problems as the bars are to far forward and he is continually stretching to reach them. I see Chuckster has 3" risers listed for this bike and was wondering if you had to change the control cables to use these? Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks DC

06 Vulcan 1600 riser question?

I put the 2 1/2 inch ones on my 07 Nomad. I didn't have to do anything with the cables. They went on just fine, with no issues. Helped a lot.

Risers and the Drifter brake pedal were about the first mods I did to the Nomad to make it more comfortable. Didn't have to do anything with the cables:

I recommend getting the chrome risers. I didn't but now wish I had.

Ask Joe, I put the 2 1/2" on mine and have plenty of cable slack.

The 3" would likely have worked.

From what I've read, and others have stated, you can use up to 4" risers and still keep stock cables. I put 2 1/2" risers from chuckster on my Nomad. Couldn't be happier with them. Fairly easy to do also.

I had Chuckster's 3" risers on my Nomad and the cable length was just fine.

I have done them here, but the 3" on the Classic makes everything a bit tight. Must be they give some more length to the cables/hoses on the Nomad's.

Pretty intuitive there wrongway. I'd have never come up with that one. Looks great.

06 Vulcan 1600 riser question?

It gave me the pullback I needed now I don't feel the fatigue in my shoulders. And since I live off workmans comp (not for too much longer I hope) the price was right.

That's a great idea! It does look great. Kind of wish I would have thought of that.

06 Vulcan 1600 riser question?

I believe it was a SAE 3/8 fine thread grade 8 high strength 5" long with a Prevailing Torque Lock Nut and a washer. the sockets I chose were 18mm deep well.

All hardware used was Zinc Yellow so no rust.

The easy way to see what length you need is to take the bolt from the riser measure it then add the length of the socket to that number. make sure you use high strength grade 8. As for the size bolt, it will be the size that fits through the opening of the socket, mine was 3/8 if I remember correctly.

I added to the inside of the sockets a stack of nuts to fill in the space and prevent the socket from trying to move off center, and a little electric tape to keep everything from making any potential noise.

Me too, I can't take credit for this idea, it was the idea of a guy from VROC I can't remember his name for the life of me.
