Old-School Seat
Here are a couple photos a local Nomad owner sent me recently. He is an Engineer for Boeing and likes to tinker with stuff.
He decided he wanted to build an old-school spring-style seat for his new Nomad. It took him several tries to get the spring right and other things, but he seems to like the current version. Personally, I think the idea is awesome, but I'm not sure about the woodwork part of the mounting bracket. I'd also have a hard time getting my short leg over that thing as it seems to sit quite a bit higher than the stock seat! It probably feels pretty cushy though going down the road though... ![]() Anyways...pretty cool, so comment away on what you think! ![]() ![]() ![]()

Not lovely to look at, but I'll bet it is comfortable. He's a clever guy. I wonder, if this is a prototype and if it works out for him, will he design a metal or fiberglass mounting device for it. Just a thought.

Unique, but that has to add 6 inches to the saddle height. Not that I would't mind adding 6 inches, but that is another story:)

Im not too crazy about the wood showing either, I don't know if there is anything you could do to make it look right on a Nomad. Its probably comfortable enough, just doesnt suit the bike in my opinion.

Looks pretty silly, in my opinion - wood or not. Kudos to him for his engineering prowess though...
It does get me thinking about how much work would be involved to by an old Harley seat off ebay and modify the mounts to fit the Nomad. I can't imagine it would be that difficult and would cost far less than buying a Mustang or other aftermarket replacement.

I applaude his creativeness, but with my bum hip it's all I can do to get my leg over the stock seat. If he's pleased with it I say go for it!

Like others, don't care for the wood, but it's an interesting concept. I think I'll stick with my Mustang.

I don't care for the look, just doesn't seem to make a good fit. Anybody ever try a tractor seat? There's a lot of those in Iowa! Ha Ha

I tried to figure out how to use a Harley Cross Bones seat, and think that it would be a much better seat. Too bad the guy in the photo isn't a metal worker like Bdog, and not a woodworker :)
That thing is nearly the most ugly thing I've seen done to a bike! ![]() |

If I was a Bdog type, I'd rather something like this than a wood monstrosity, though I'm not big on the huge air gap here either. ![]() |
