Where to mount a PC-8 fusebox??
I'm a new owner of an 08 Nomad, looking to add a PC-8 fusebox before I starting wiring in lightbar and other electronics.
I've read the prior threads which suggest some have mounted inside the left sidecover, but I can't see how it would fit there. Nor do I see much room under the stock seat, or inside the right sidecover. I'd welcome any suggestions or pictures as to how other riders have had success in mounting this fusebox on their Nomads. Thanks!

Where to mount a PC-8 fusebox??
Quote:
Forget about under the seat, not enough room. I have 2 fuse blocks on my 2007: I have one mounted in my left side cover. The vapor canister has since been removed and a cruise control servo unit is in its place, but the fuse block is mounted the same. ![]() The other one is mounted between the steering head and the right fork tube, behind the headlight assembly. I thought I had a better pic of this, but couldn't find it. ![]()

Where to mount a PC-8 fusebox??
My '08 Nomad has a ton of room under the rear fender inside of the junction box cover, added some extra lights from there, and was surprised at how much extra space was there. My friend removed the left side cover, and took out the toolkit, and then re-cycled the space for some components. Good luck.

Where to mount a PC-8 fusebox??
Chuck Burt put auxiliary fuse boxes in soap containers (the plastic ones you get at the dollar store) and had them mounted between the steering head and the fork tubes. I wish I had taken a picture of the install. I'm thinking of doing something similar.

Where to mount a PC-8 fusebox??
Thanks for those ideas and pics. On my 2008 I don't have the CA smog cannister, so there is some open space inside the top half of the left sidecover, but no obvious way to orient and mount the PC-8 (3 1/4" LX 2 1/4" W without mount tabs or wires) on any of the flat surfaces. I'd like to get the box under the top half of that cover, keeping the stock toolkit storage compartment and not have to cut everything up. So it looks like I will just have to devise some way of mounting it into that space with enough room for any wires running to/from the fusebox and still be able to close the sidecover. It looks like there should be a way, was just hoping this was a common mod with clear solution.

Where to mount a PC-8 fusebox??
I'm rethinking this and may go with the "3 Circuit Solution" which is a new 3-fuse setup offered by easternbeaver.com It looks smaller and I can see mounting it into the left sidecover easily. Three fused circuits will probably be enough for me to at least get the lightbar, air horn and GPS set to go.

Where to mount a PC-8 fusebox??
Creed:
I'm having a similar dilemma with the PC-8 I just purchased. My left side box houses the servo for the Audiovox cruise control, so my side box has already been modified- tool box cut out, etc. I don't think you'll have much luck without chopping some of the plastic out of your inner cover. I'd like to hear your solution when you come up with one. |

Where to mount a PC-8 fusebox??
I mounted my PC 8 fuse panel in the left side cover---makes for very easy wiring. I first cut a 3/8 inch truck mud flap---slightly larger than the fuse block----and attached the block to the piece of rubber mud flap---with attached screws---and found a way to secure it to the forward side of the side cover. sorry I dont have any pics---- There's lots of room. You will have to cut a hole in the back of the side cover to feed the wiring. I installed the same unit in my brothers side cover----again with no problems.
I also had lots of room for my Power command 3. I'll try to send you some pic's----but I'm laid up with a sprained rt ankle and torn MCL/ACL to my rt knee. ( yes---the old Emergency Rt turn/ Rt leg down to avoid getting hit by a car. Low speed though---and once I threw myself under my mike ( to save it of course) the damage to the Knee was done. I can say with great pride---evan through a bruised ego---that my Bike was undamaged.) |
