Do You Get Calls Like This?

My Sister'n Law called at 0612 am to 'just hear my voice' because there was a wreck in Memphis. A group of bikers had a mishap and the news said there was one female rider in critical condition. So she had to call 'just to make sure it wasn't me'.

:(" title="" border="0"/> That's sweet but it's my day off and it's raining. I have to get up a little past 0430 am on work days and like to sleep in a bit on days off. That was all she wanted.....I can go back to sleep now if I want....thanks.

I just always say, 'No, that was not me/us etc....thanks for calling'. :-/

I get it too.
If there is a ambulance going down the street the same direction of our house, we have realitives call. ::) I understand concern, but relax!
I always tell people, no news is good news.
And people wonder why we want to leave and not come back!

No, I get calls at 03:00 in the morning from some Java developer in India who can't get his code to run because he's filled up a file system.

I wish I had calls from people wondering if I'm okay.

Every time i get back from a trip I am always asked "so how was the flight?"
I always respond "Oh! Did you hear about it on the news? No? Then it was a fine!".

It's true, if any motorcycle goes down within a hundred mile radius of my house I get slammed with emails and phone calls wanting to make sure it wasn't me. I guess I should appreciate the concern, but I actually do find it a little annoying at times. ::)

Non-riders are genetically predisposed to inform every biker they know about every horrible accident they come across, heard from a friend, or just plain made up.

Yeah, when you tell someone you ride, they always want to tell you about some gruesome motorcycle wreck they know about. I will in turn tell them about a horrible car crash I saw once.

Guess I am lucky with my family. They don't call to see if you arrived safely or to find out if you are all right. No news is good news. When we call, it is after we look at the clock and make sure it is good time so we all have time to chat. On the other hand, the words "there is a problem" or worse "you'd better come" means it is for real.

I only had one call like that, and it was after I left a freinds house because a storm was moving in quickly. It turned out that a tornado went by me within about 500 yards and nearly blew the bike over on the road about halfway home that night..

They call you from India for advice!

How come every time I had trouble with my computer and call for assist I GET someone from India? :-/ I can tell they are reading from a manual ??? (Now if you will select F4 and then hit reset this should solve the problem...did that solve the problem? no? ...flip/flip/flip..okay now you need etc...etc....) ....plus you can't understand half of what they are saying. I've always gave up worked and fretted and worked some more and usually figure it out myself (except for one problem I've completely given up on over year ago and have just learned to live with ). LOL

I used to work in the ER and of course every m/c accident that came through if I was there they came looking for me. If it was on a day off I always heard about it the next time I came in....blah blah blah....

I haven't tried telling them a horrible car crash story. But I do tell people I am doing what I want to do and enjoying myself.

My mom and I read the same newspaper every day and everytime there is a bike crash she asks if I read about it.

Yes. I've gotten those calls from my wife and daughter.

In a similar vein. On 9/11, my wife's parents called us during the wild confusion to make sure we were ok. I live in Thurmont, MD, which is near Camp David. Early reports on Baltimore television spoke of a plane that had gone down near Camp David (turned out to be the the Shanksville, PA plane) It would have crossed near Camp David, so I now understand the confusion.

I actually looked out the back door up to the mountain to see if there was any smoke from a crash.

Now, every time a military jet patrols the area, it returns me to that time -- horrible, horrible.

They are contractors my company hired to write code for a large in-house application. I can't understand them either, if that's any consolation. When their code doesn't work, they call me. Because they are 12.5 hours ahead of us, their workday is when I'm trying to sleep. I don't deal with PC's - I deal with large Unix systems.
