Cam chain extenders (ready or not?)
My Nomad has 58,726 miles on it so I went ahead and ordered the chain tensioner extenders from Chuckster (came quick too - Thanks Chuckster!). I don't want to put them on it yet if it will last a little longer before it really needs it. I took the rear cap off and it is .246 from the end of the threads. Should I go ahead and change them or can it wait a little while? I haven't checked the front yet. ???

I´m a little skeptical to the extenders... A few in VRS(Vulcan riders
sweden) Has put in those extenders whith the result that the chain has eaten a hole in the sparkplug-tunnel.. I personaly would shift the chains... But that´s just me... |

Zoom45, you have 3 mm of tensioner travel remaining, (out of 18 mm total travel). I would definitely install the extenders now.
Be sure to lock the bearing in place before you put the outer cap back on. Garry

Does anyone have any idea as to why the chains stretch so early, causing us to have to install the extenders. I have heard of Nomads' going 100 to 200 K miles. Is this on the original chains? I wonder if the original tensioner springs are maybe just a little to strong causing the chains to stretch prematurely. I have had quite a few metric bikes, and I have never heard of anyone having to use extenders before this. Anyone ?
