Gas capwhine

Hi. Lately when I go for a ride...long or short, doesn't seem to matter...and stop and turn off my bike, there is a whiney sound coming from the gas cap, like a vacuum lock. When I open the cap there's a definite vacuum sound.
Is there a vent or breather that could be plugged?

That is normal. There is a breather on the cap that lets the air escape. You will notice more in warmer weather and when the tank is full.

Nothing is wrong, that's normal. It's more prevalent in the warmer weather.

Normal? Ok. Just seems a little strange. I was worried it might vapor lock on me.

I thought there was a mod on Gadget's site that got rid of the whine. Like to know if anyone has done this and what the result was. Mine really makes a noise, sun beating down on a black tank...........

When I first bought my nomad I thought there was something wrong when it started whistling at me in the shop after a long hot ride . I looked into it and found out that it's a normal trait of the nomads . I just got use to it .

Maybe someday I'll try the mod but for now I'll just whistle along !!

Here's the mod you mentioned Bluesman

Just as you were told, its the personality of the Nomads. Its the pressure buildup inside the tank cause by the vent spring in the cap. You can disassemble the cap as per Gadgets website, and follow directions. Just reduce the spring pressure so it'll vent freely....
Most will whistle, some hiss, a few more do a whoosh of sorts....

Thanks for the link to the "fix" I think I'll try the mod - my whine is exceptionally loud.

Your welcome ! As I recall , back when I had mentioned this issue I was told to be careful of flying parts ( springs ect ) . Let me know how you made out . I may still be interested in doing this mod as well .

I came up with the fix many years ago. It's on gadgets page.
It involves cutting a little spring to reduce pressure to let air out without whistling.
Be careful and don't cut too much off.
