Trying to decide
Have any of you parted out your motorcycle or had to do extensive repairs?
Te reason I ask is ...I was in an accident on my voyager and bent the forks and busted up the faring, OEM parts are so expensive and aftermarket parts are almost non existent except for add ons. I don't know what a good value would be for the bike as is. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

What did your insurance do?

I would think the replacement parts would be cheaper than getting another Voyager ?
When fixed it would be worth a lot more than you would get if you parted it out. Have you actually priced the OEM parts ? ronayers.com to look up prices on their microfiche. http://www.ronayers.com/oemparts/a/k...48f/front-fork |

Hate to admit it but, I paid cash just over 10k for the bike origionally and when I insured it I neglected to go full coverage. Currently I'm still working on paying the hospital bills and OEM parts I have looked up so far I'm looking at about 7k and thats not including small parts.
2 fork assemblies front fender outer faring inner faring both crash bars both lowers both footrests left saddlebags It's just such a daunting list

Part it out, %50 of retail is usual for asking if the parts are still in good shape, I had a V65 magna that blew the engine, got $4000 or so for the parts in total, even sold the frame. A lot of the parts were aftermarket and were sought after, so it would also depend on the market.

Find a Voyager, Vaquero or Nomad with a blown engine.

First off I hope your O.K. , Shame you didn't have the full coverage . I think in your shoes myself I would find another Voyager that you could get for less than 7k , and have plenty of spare parts ....or as another suggested find one with a blown engine and swap . If you in fact would like to part out ....I would like to buy both of the air cleaner side covers and the left side lower cover with the ''6" mine have faded some

Glad you're OK! Don't feel bad; I had a $5k+ hospital bill from playing Rugby without health insurance not long ago...we all take risks doing what we love sometimes!
Not sure how handy you are or how long you'll be laid up but parting a vehicle out is a pretty daunting task in and of itself, also, you'll sell "the good stuff" quickly and be left storing a lot for a while not to mention all the shipping...if it were me I'd probably list it as is and see what kind offers you get, you may be suprised. Wouldn't hurt to see if you get any interest while you decide.

jtrkr220, sorry to hear of your wreck and injuries. Do you have any accessories or add-ons that you want to sell?

If you go the repair route, make certain it is just the forks that bent, that there was no damage to the triple tree. I had a Connie where both were bent after a head-on collision, but the damage to the triple tree was much harder to see.

If he can find someone with a Motoliner, ROTObike or a Mega MAX, the could find out if the frame is tweaked and if so, fix it. Sometimes bikes are off from the factory too.

jtrkr220 Hope you are OK. Sorry to learn you are in this situation.
Guess I would look for a high mileage or blown Voyager and start swaping parts. Craigslist and ebay the left overs to recoup some of the difference... Best wishes, Smokier
