1500 Drifter Tranny Issues??

My brother owns a 99' 1500 Drifter, he says he is experiencing some strange vibrations in 4th and 5th gear. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with problems like this. I assume since the chassis is pretty much the same between the Drifter and the Nomad that the drive lines' are the same. Do I assume wrong? Any input could help us out. Thanks.

I don't think his clutch is slipping. I rode the bike not too long ago and the clutch was pretty solid. And I know he just got new tires, but he said the problem was happening before and after the tires.

He is not sure the speedo does not work, was not working when he bought the bike. The speedo stopped at 42k, not sure how long ago that was.

With that many miles it could still be the clutch. When My clutch was slipping you couldn't tell it in the lower gears, but when you rolled on the throttle and shifted from 4th to 5th you really noticed it. I'd start by bleeding the fluid in the clutch master cylinder. Push fluid through until it runs clear. See if that makes any difference first.

Ok I will pass this along and let you know what he comes up with. The clutch slipping at high speed like that caused strange vibrations?

2 + 2= 22 ? ...Considering that 3rd and 4th gear means the bike is moving faster than the bottom two gears....

It's "possible" that the rear tire has an -issue ! ?

My 02 Nomad was "vibrating" at hiway speeds...and I discovered my Metzler ME 880 www Rear Tire was pretty much a "caseing--squirming around loose-inside the tread !

And I'v had two of them do that at around 5 -6,000 miles ! (see my photo album)

I'd check the U joint, it may be sloppy and need replacing.

I know my brother had a Metz on there before but I'm not sure what tire he just put on there. Last we talked we were talking about the Dunlop CruiseMax, but I like I said I dont know what kind of tires he just put on it. I will pass on the suggestion about the u-joint. Thanks.
