Vaquero Reed Valve (hose location)
Hello,
I want to marble the reed valve on my Vaquero. I do not want to remove them. Can someone please tell (preferably show) me exactly which hose(s) to block off? I am concerned about accidently blocking something important like the crank case vent. Please help! Thanks! Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Open the right side of the intake where the throttle body is. After you remove the cover look at the upper left side in the air box, you will see a small hole approximately a 1/2" in diameter. That is the hose you need to marble. Remember to unplug the air temp sensor from behind before pulling the box out. Sorry I don't have any pictures.

Thank you very much. These instructions were exactly what I needed.
Follow up question: After plugging this hole last night, there seems to be a little hiccup (really low idle for 2 seconds) when starting the bike. Did you experience/notice this? Also, I put my hand behind the exhaust to see if I could feel any unburnt fuel spitting and I noticed that the right side is much warmer than the left... This maybe very newbie questions, but was concerning to me. Thanks, Chris |

The reason for that is the design of the exhaust on the bike. Most of the exhaust gases will come out the right side. W where the 2 pipes split there is nothing in there to divert the gases evenly to each side. Again nothing to worry about.

This helps limit the popping you get from the exhaust. The hose that capt helped me plug pushes fresh air into the exhaust to burn up any unburned fuel that leaves the engine. It's an emissions function that is annoying. It's normal for bikes, but is not easily heard with stock exhaust. However, once you change to aftermarket, it sounds like a drive by!
Highly recommended and thanks again capt for your help! |
