Reasons for weaving

As a member of a DUI squad, I gotta tell you, I hear a lot of reasons for people not being able to stay within a marked traffic lane (simply put, weaving or not driving straight). I would tend to think that I have heard most of them because many of my customers tend to use the same reasons. However, last night I got a FIRST. This is a totally true story...sometimes the most hilarious things we see just happen. I got it on my tape and we will show it and discuss it at our next training.

I stopped a woman for (1) weaving across the lane markings and (2) coming to a complete stop in a traffic lane in an area where stopping is not safe. She was the only occupant of the vehicle.

I approached her car, asked for her license and registration and informed her of my reason for the stop. (even though she was technically already stopped at the time I lit her up)

Her response was genuine and sincere....She stated, "You are going to think I am crazy but...I have a fish between my legs and every time I turn the steering wheel it makes me wet."

I said, "Excuse me?" She then said exactly the same thing again. She said, "Let me show you" and at first, I took a step back. BUT, sure enough, she had a beta in a fish bowl that was overfilled with water, in the drivers seat and she was holding it still between her legs. She said, I don't know of anywhere else to put it. I am taking it over to my friends because she is going to "babysit it" for me while I am out of town. I had to fill the bowl to the top because my fish uses "special water" and it evaporates. (In my mind I thought..."Have you ever heard of a plastic jug?")

I took the bowl, poured out a little of her "special water," and then handed it back to her. I said, "You are right, I never heard that as a reason before. "MA'AM, listen carefully. I am going to give you a warning for distracted driving. Specifically, if your fish is going to make you wet while driving, you need to find another way to transport your fish in your motor vehicle, other than, of course, between your legs."

AND...YES, if you are wondering, she was a 100% natural blond. I had to meet up with the fellas for coffee after that one.
