My first Nomad, need your advice.
Hello all, I'm new to the forum and 1 month into my first Nomad, it's 2005 1600, 19k on the clock. I had it fully serviced after purchase got good bill of health from mechs. Noticed I get some heavy front end vibration when lighting her up from 2nd into 3rd, smooths out in 4th. No vib when I'm in less of a hurry. Not sure if this is the nature of the beast? or I need to have it check out? appreciate your input - i

Eagle good question but new front tire installed on purchase. Think landman may have nailed it. I just moved up from Vulcan 750 -1600 Nomad biggest bike I've ever ridden, probably just a matter of different performance. Wanted to check in with you guys make sure I wasn't missing something, appreciate the help.

Welcome to the forum from Ontario, Canada. You will find there are a great bunch of folks on this forum who are incredibly helpful. Lots of great info in the tech section of the forum to walk us through doing just about thing that needs to be done to our bikes.

What do you mean by "lighting her up"? Are you hitting the rev limiter or just going WOT at lower rpms? Even though the tire is new, you could have a harmonic vibration at a specific speed. I had one front tire that had one at 42mph. Started building about 39 mph, maximum vibration at 42mph, the dropped off above 45 mph. Had car tire with one at 68mph once. Note the speed at which it is occurring and then check to see if it does it in 4th gear but slowed down to the speed you are having the problem at while running up through 2nd and 3rd. Or just pull the clutch in and let the throttle off and coast when it is vibrating and see if it immediately goes away (motor) or dissipates as you slow down 3-4 mph (wheel/tire harmonic vibration).
It might just be the change to a big V-twin as suggested above, but I always found wide open acceleration through 3rd gear to be one of the real joys on the Nomad: very smooth and pulled like crazy, so at least relative to my experience with a sample size of one other bike, the vibration you are describing would not be typical of Nomad performance unless you are pushing it up to the rev limiter because you are used to a smaller motor that ran at higher rpms. (In which case, shift earlier and stay in the richer torque band.)

Welcome from Nebraska. No vibration on the 07 as long as hands are on the handle bar.

Welcome from Ontario! I'd start by checking the tire for cupping, and proper air pressure (40-42 psi) is good.
Perhaps it is nothing to worry about and you just are not used to the larger V twin.

Dank, thanks for the advice took the bike out today. Think I'm finding that rich torque band your talking about. Felt a significant difference in the vibration issue, smoothed right out through 2nd into 3rd.
Oh yeah "lighting her up" is Scots Irish for hitting the rev limiter. Of course once your moving at breakneck speed you have to "keep her lit!". Really appreciate the candor of this forum. Knew I was getting a good bike didn't know I'd get a good community as well. May the road rise to meet you all - ian
