clicking noise

Went for a long ride in the Georgia mountains on Saturday. We started up the bike this morning and headed for home. We both noticed a clicking noise for about the first mile. (from the front of the motor I think) It sounded like it was following rpm not the tire. It went away and did not return on the 100 mile trip home.
I have a 2007 1600 with 5800 miles. Thanks in advance.

P.S. As you can tell I'm not much of a mechanic.
