2004 Nomad 1500FI for Sale?? $2000
I put a question mark in the title because I'm not sure if I should offer this as a whole bike or as parts. The bike runs, and I mean runs good, has been well maintained, and has a clean title. The problem is it jumps out of 2nd gear under hard acceleration - the fix for which requires a very deep teardown of the motor which I am not interested in doing myself. The transmission parts to fix this are not that expensive (around $500) but paying for the labor would be a killer. This would be a project for a proficient, mechanical do-it-yourselfer. If that's you here's some details:
2004 Nomad 1500FI with approx 54k miles. Clean Massachusetts title with no liens. Many mods including Vance & Hines pipes, Cobra power commander, Cadman intake, lengthened brake and clutch pedals, ComfortRideZone floorboard pegs, Touring trunk, and Russell Day Long seat. Depending on how anybody reacts to this post I might elect to part out the bike instead because I think the least I'm willing to take for it in it's whole form, running with a title is $2000. Heck you could ride it as-is for a year, babying it through 2nd gear, and fix it later :) Anyway, it's something to think about...

Update - oleVbagger and I have been talking and it turns out he won't be buying this bike afterall but for anyone watching, he has found a place in Albany who specialize in metric bikes, is familiar with this repair, and quoted $1600 - $1800 for the complete job. That's a lot less than I thought it would cost for a turnkey job. presumably with some kind of warranty. So I think economically it's still best suited for a do-it-yourselfer but what do I know - if you've been pondering it don't be shy to shoot me an offer.
Thanks.

Wow, that is a nice looking ride for sure! Seems like a great deal for a rider that is not afraid to do his own wrenching. Good luck on the sale!

Why don't you buy a replacement motor for about $1200.00 and swap it out. Thats what I did. My bike had 85,000 miles when 3rd gear started jumping out, and I installed a 1600cc motor with about 16,000 miles on it.

Before selling it as a whole for $2K I'd consider parting out the valuable parts. The trunk, seat, and exhaust alone should get you over $1K. If you're considering another Nomad, you may want to swap parts over first, then sell this one for $1500-ish.

You could part some of it out, return it to stock and trade it for http://polaris.hs.llnwd.net/o40/ind/...m_medium=email

Not a Kawasaki at all, which I guess officially makes me a member of the 'Various Baggers Assoc'. This season I'll be sporting a 2010 Victory Cross Country with a scant 7800 miles, and a beautiful thing it is. Can I get a "YEE HAA!!" So as much as I appreciate all your suggestions on fixing the Nomad I will definitely be letting someone else have that pleasure. Would love to see it still on the road but it's somebody else's turn now. Man I had a lot of fun on the Nomad - man I'm going to go even faster, further, and more often on the Victory!!!!!
