Parking the bike

When you're in a parking lot do you try to park near the building, like at Walmart, where there's usually a large concrete apron, or do you park in the lot? I prefer to park in the lot, next to a curb or some other physical obstacle, so I only have to worry about cars on one side of me.

In the lot. Some lots have motorcycle only spots.

Turn??? No, I've just had some troubling questions that have been eating at me for some time and I need answers, not cute comments!

I look for the flattest area to park in.

I've asked the roaming security guards where I should park on multiple occasions - they've always directed me to a sidewalk or in a striped off area...not out there in the lot with all the other saps, er, shoppers.
