crazy saddle fitment

Hello everybody..

I have a 2002 Vulcan Nomad 1500fi. What model years will my saddle fit on?

My transmission has developed a problem at 68k. Rather than having it repaired (fixing it myself is out of my wheelhouse) I'm considering replacing the bike, it may be more cost effective. I want to save my Russell Day Long saddle to switch over, along with a long list of other accessories I've added over time... So, I'm wondering what years to focus in on.

Thanks in advance for your input..

Go to ronayers.com and look at their online microfiche.
Get the part number of your seat and then check other years of the 1500 to see if they have the same seat part number.

I am pretty sure the 1500 seats will not fit on a 1600.

redjay... Thanks for the link.. looks like 2000 to 2004 will work. You were right, the 2005 1600, mounts center rear vs from the sides, like the 1500.

Let the search begin!!

MAS... I had thought about doing just that, but hadn't found an eligible/suitable replacement .... Until this morning.

I just pulled the trigger on a 2006 engine from a Classic fi, with 20K on it, that will fit my needs nicely. Now it's a waiting game for the engine to be shipped. In the mean time, start thinking about ordering the other things I will want to replace while the engine is out. Like radiator hoses and drive line universal. To mention a few items right off the top. Tearing the engine down to fix it was not something I'm interested in doing. But, swapping the engine I can pull off "with a little help from my friends"

Quick update on my engine saga...

I received the engine I ordered off eBay. I'm reminded of the saying, "No good deed goes unpunished" Let's just say the engine I ordered was less than I expected it to be. Several emails back and forth and I ended up sending it back

Now what to do?? Good fortune smiled on me..

I managed to find a 2003 Nomad with 19.6K miles on it, that has been sitting in a garage for about 6 years, that I was able to buy for a GREAT price.. Hitched up the motorcycle trailer and headed over to Yakima. Picked it up. Pay the guy and transferred title, had it back at my house the same day... 250 miles round trip

The next day I dumped the gas tank, antifreeze, and crankcase, replace the same with fresh. Installed the battery from my old Nomad and cranked it up. She turned over about revolutions and sprang to life!! I did the happy dance right there in the middle of the garage.. Made a couple of minor adjustments, installed my Russell saddle and took her out for a test ride. Brought her back for a much needed bath. Then rode her over to the weekly Wednesday night gathering of Usual Suspects to show it off!

I love it when a story has a happy ending

Perfect! Now take and find a used 1600 meanstreak engine and drop it in your broken 1500 it is a direct swap.

What about the wiring ? The Nomad has 2 stators, and i believe the meanstreak has only 1 ?

That would be a great idea, if I wanted to put that kind of effort into it. I'm planning to part it out or offer it up as a project bike to someone who would be interested in it.

That's sad! I get attached to my bikes though.... Well tell us the good news. Once sold what are your plans for the next bike? 1700? If I ditched my nomad right now I'd buy a vaquero in a heartbeat
