Poole quay bike night.
I rode 30 miles through the forest to a regular tuesday evening bike gathering at Poole Quay in Dorset. Here are some of the photo's that i took of the bike's that had, in some case's, ridden a lot further than me. Most of them would have been exported to America in their day, how many can you identify.

That Royal Enfield looks tiny.
I wanted one of them back when I was riding my BSA Lightning but couldn't find one in the area. No internet back then

Close, but no cigar number 4 is a Velocette Venom 500cc. There was a pair of NSU Quickly's there that looked like they were brand new, and they were, the old boy that owned them was a right character, he's got an American army dispatch rider's bike, an Indian, that he said he would bring next week

Again, close but no cigarthat Bonneville, is a Tribsa, and i think it only fair on the yank's, you being a Northern ex pat and all, that you ought to know the model of these other bike's as well

You probably did yourself a favour by not finding one.

I had an ex military Matchless 3C, a single pot 350cc side valve, sluggish is a generous description, but it took a hell of a beating in the forest and would run all day at 50mph sweet as a nut

My grandfather had a Raleigh Runabout. It was the first "bike" I rode.

He bought the Raleigh Runabout when he was in his fifties with winnings from the bookies.
He never had a car, he could not afford one. |
