New TFI - Dobeck
Ordered it Tuesday. It came in yesterday and I installed it today. I should have done it years ago. It's like a different bike.
I discovered that my TPS was set too high so I adjusted it down to .52 while I was at it. That lets the TFI do it's thing.

The TFI is a great accessory that all Nomad owners ought to consider.

Add a larger air intake (Caddman mod or similar) and the bike will really come to life.

I have V & H Baggers and a Baron BAK on mine and without the TFI the beast would be somewhere around gutless. A dyno run or 2 (3 maybe 4) to dial it in and she runs like a champ. Jared's right - all Nomad owners should consider a TFI at the minimum, PC if you really want one as the factory computer is dumb

I just put my Dobeck TFI on about two weeks ago. Put in the 87 octane, no pinging what's so ever. Took it out onto the highway in traffic, even the State Trooper that pulled me over was impressed!
But here is my problem. Although it runs pretty good, I'm getting a 1/3 less in MPG, which is the big reason I bought it was for better MPG. I usually only get about 32 MPG around were I live, have two tanks of gas thru it now with TFI on, getting 20 -22 MPG. Not acceptable. Any ideas? I have the settings set on what is recommended for the 1600, which has no modifications, it's stock exhaust and such. Without looking, I think the pots are set at 3, 3 and 5? Now when they said the settings are like a clock, where 1:00 should be off and 3:00 should be two clicks. Everything appears to be running fine, on the first tank of gas I was riding pretty hard testing it out, so expected low MPG, but second tank deliberately rode it mellow to get better MPG, only got 2 MPG more. Anyone else have this problem with lower MPG after putting the TFI on?

I had the Dobeck TFI on my 05 Nomad. I lost a couple of MPG after the install but still got between 35 and 40 mpg depending on throttle usage.
I had the Caddman mod (9 inch K&N filter kit) and debaffled stock mufflers. My settings were 4-4-1-9 on the TFI. The Dobeck recommended baseline setting for a 1600 Nomad is 3-6-1-9. If you are only getting 20-22mpg now and were only getting 32 mpg before the install then I would suggest you have other issues. Have you cleaned the throttle body lately ? How is the air filter ? Install new plugs ? A TFI install will not usually give you better mileage than stock.

Bull, do a search on fine tuning it. Mac and I have wrote several times on the way to set up a TFI to give a better running bike and good mileage.

I kept turning pot three down. It's set at 2 now. That's the main jet.
Pot 4 at 9, that's the rpm that pot 3 kicks in. I also played with the 2nd Pot, the accelerator pump. Kept turning it down. Now 2.5. I'm getting 35 around town and 38-40 at 70 mph. It's really running Great. Better than it has ever ran. I have 1600 motor with all The 1500 electronics.

One thing that is very critical is where your TPS is set.
Mine Is set at .58 at idle with the idle set around 800 rpm. My TPS was set at .55 to start. That threw off the settings On the TFI.

Right after I posted that, I found a write up not to long ago on the same subject, with a huge reply by MacMac and how he sets his. Thanks for the link. It's not the same one I was reading, but same subject and help. I need to get out this weekend and do some of the suggestions for setting it. I remember a few months ago, I posted about that idle adjustment. I think part of my problem is I need to turn that back down to where it was. Otherwise the bike is running great, have been putting 87 octane in it with the TFI, no pinging whatsoever, have nice power in every gear, even when going slow in a higher gear, pulls out fine. I have been noticing a little fart, so to speak, not a pop or anything, but a littler quifer. I'm thinking it's getting to much gas, is farting out the excess gas now and then. Answer me this. If for whatever reason, say I'm out on a long road trip and something goes goofy, if I turn off the pots, roll them all back to 1:00 o'clock, basically the TFI is not doing anything and the bike would just revert back to it's stock settings, acting like the TFI wasn't hooked up at all anymore, right? Or would you actually have to disconnect it? Just a thought I've been having.

You are right. Setting all of the POTS to 1:00 makes all signals just pass through as though it isnt even there.
