Dooleys story continued

I really didn't plan on buying pipes, but a friend found a new set of Dooleys at a Honda dealer for a Nomad--go figure. Anyway, the dealer wanted them gone and my friend happened to be in the right place at the right time and got them really really cheap.

They came with smooth head pipe shields and I really wanted the nostalgic look of the serrated so I emailed Roadhouse and found that they would send me a set for $110 delivered which I didn't think was too bad. So I called to order and told them that I had a new set of smooth shields and (this is the best part) they are sending me the serrated with a call tag to send the smooth ones back at no charge. This is beyond the call of duty in my opinion and signs that the new owner is really dedicated to getting Roadhouse back on track. I also explained that is was old stock and they assured me that if I have any problems with anything fitting, they would make it right---what more could you ask.

Dusty in parts explained that the serrated heat shields turn golden because of the heat and that's normal and he wanted to make sure I wasn't one of those chrome freaks who would go nuts over the golden color. We discussed ways to stop this discoloration, so I'm going to try several ideas. I'm going to coat the inside of the head pipes with a thermal barrier lining and then under each shield foot, I'm going to insulate with exhaust tape wrap. I guess we'll have to see if it works, only time will tell. I hope to get the pipes on this weekend. :-*

When everything is said and done, I'll post some new pictures of everything.
