Old MC tires - beware

I've just pulled my rear wheel off to replace the tire, brakes, and lube the swing arm.

I noticed a strange wear pattern on the tire removed. This is a Metzler 880. I looked at the DOT code and found this tire, which I bought about four months and 13,605 miles ago has a date code showing it was manufactured in the year 2000.

CruizerCustomizing.com in Livermore California sold me a tire eight years old. Yes, I checked my new one and it was mfg. this year.

Here's a video discussing this issue, and how to read the DOT codes.
