have a problem

After dropping the bike today it rolled over the guards but after I got it back up it was running on 1 cylinder I rode it home and the FI light came on but the it went off and she started running on both cylinders but still didn't have much power when I got home I took the seats off and the left side cover and checked the TFI every thing looked ok started the bike up and it ran fine. What would cause the FI light to come on?????????? ???

a tip over system was set off cutting fuel to the bike to eliminate a fire. bike needs to be uprighted and shut of for a spell then restarted and all should be fine as you noticed.

Glad to see you're back on line and no one was hurt. All kinds of fluid levels get pushed around with a bike is set on the side, oil can cause a cylinder not to fire, it just needs to settle back down.

Wow, Good to know that BD. For some reason that rings a bell. I may have read that somewhere.

Might want to check in the right side throttle body if you have a stock engine breather hose. There could be a fair amount of engine oil there.

if ever there is a next time shut the engine off if it doesn't turn off and with the key make sure it is all off before you turn it on, and only after the bike is on the side stand.

Give it a few moments for draining correctly again, since oil gets way to high in the engine case, and the fuel cut out needs to re-ballance..

Thanks guys I didn't know it had a tip over shut off but I did up right the bike and let it sit for a good long time before starting it, we rode about 60 miles home and it still didn't run right until after I check every thing I could think of maybe turning the key off & on several time had something to do with resetting things because it seems to run all right now. I will find out today as I am going to Helena ark for a rally a friend is going with me he rides a Harley and said he would bring a rope.

Careful the ropes those Harley guys use have magnets on the end and they can whip around pretty good on the highway.

Harley riders always carry a rope. And usually have experience tying it to the FRONT of THEIR bike

I had something similar happen recently (running on one cylinder with FI light on... not dropping bike, though I am no virgin in that dept.... ). It turned out to be one of the connections at the coils where I had spliced in the tach wires. It was corroded and after I remade all the connections the bike ran fine. Maybe something to check. Something may have come loose.

Pete

Sorry, just read the post and you seem to be ok. Pays to read all the posts....Something for future reference, anyway.

Look over as much wiring as you can... coils All connectors there... Right side cover all connectors there. pull the battery cables and sand the connectors there and put them back, really...

At idle in neutral wiggle harnesses anywhere you can touch them enough to move them.

A bad connection isn't a short. A short almost always blows a fuse.. A Dead short always blows a fuse..

What you have is a loose connection, which is difficult to locate. Most of the time it is there enough to work.

In away if you get lucky you will smell buring/melting plastic, and if you have already it is a real thing..

Find a women with a keen sense of smell and have her track it down.
