Seen and sat on a new 1700 today.

Did not know for sure where to post this so here it is. Liz and I braved the Snow Sleet and Rain today and drove the cage to Kansas City hoping to see a new Nomad and Voyager. None in KC until mid to late April but we did get to see and sit on a new 1700 Classic. We talked to the salesman and discovered a few things on the Classic that will be on the Nomad that I did not see anyone post about. First is the 1700 engines has the oil fill on the left side and under the cap is a dip stick. No more sight glass. Next I seen a switch on the right hand controls labeled Mode A and Mode B. The salesman explained that is for the programmable fuel injection system. One mode is for burning around town and the other mode leans the engine out for maximum fuel economy on the highway. The salesman also told us that the seat on the Nomad would be dished a lot more than on the Classic allowing you to sit more down into the machine. I also liked the handle bars as I would not need any risers. I noticed that the Classic did not have a catalytic converter ( Goats Belly ) and ask if the 1700 engine did not need one. The salesman told us that the new pipes have them built inside of them. I am sure the pipes on the Nomad will be the same way.

The thing I disliked the most was the thickness of the 1700 engine. Even with my long legs I was stretched to keep them away from the engine. And second was the Gas Cap. It is the same cap, at least on the Classic that the 900 has. And although I am sure it is a good cap to me it just looks cheap compared to the 1600's cap.

Well that is about it. The weather was crappy and we seen several cars off in the medium and side of the road. We did met one Dodge truck coming at us sideways on our side of the road. But he got it back under control in time and we made it home without incident and not any worst for the trip. A little lighter in the wallet but you know helping the economy and all that stuff.

The advantage of being poor like me is that I don't have to worry about what the new bikes are like. I'm tickled to death with my '07 Nomad.

Im not sure if the dealer here has any of the new bikes in yet. I think thats a good reason to go for a ride and see what they have in stock. If the weather is good I'll try to get up there before long. Im curious as to what the prices are on the new bikes.
