How much to paint a fairing

I am finally close to getting the HD fairing painted. I plan on getting the inner / outer and one set of the brackets painted. The outer will be two tone (black / silver) and the inner and brackets all black.

For those of you who have done this mod before, how much is a reasonable amount to pay for paint? I have a price of around $500 CDN ($400 US) from one place and was just curious of that was decent. The shop that quoted that does very good work, best around here so that may be worth something.

How much to paint a fairing

I guess it depends on the amount of prep work they have to do and how much time it takes them to match colors. Most charge by the hour really so I would say that can't be too terribly bad. The estimate on my trunk was $200US. But that was one color and I would be doing all the prep so all they had to do was match color and spray.

strobe: what brand light bar you got there? if Cobra does the HD fairing fir around it good with the stock brackets. or did you have to fab up new ones. $500 sounds about right if they do all prep work/paint too.

I had a friend paint my fairing. It is a premuex that was in very good condition, just the wrong color. He did it for $160 + I paid for the paint, another $60.00. He painted my fairing and both lower fairings. Included prep and clearcoat.
I got quotes for $300-$600. All one color, black.

Sounds like the price is OK. I was hoping for cheaper, but don't want to cheap out on a bad paint job after what I have invested in the fairing project already.

I have the CWI 'Light Bar' (not really a light bar in my opinion, but it works). I preferred the signal lights to be below the driving lights, so went with this one over the Cobra and F&S where the signals stick out the sides. I had to make some extensions mounts for the lights to get them to fit (they will be chromed).

I know people that have the Cobra bar as well and they had to make a bracket to move it out a couple inches to clear the fairing.

I had a similar plan for paint, my brother in law was going to paint mine but we lost him to cancer in December, so now I am back to actual shops. I have all the stuff (or more correctly my sister in law does) so thought about doing it myself but I have not painted anything for a lot of years and really do not think I will have the patience to do it right.

How much to paint a fairing

I just picked up the paint for my 08 Red and Black Nomad yesterday from Carquest. It is the only PPG store in the area. Remember Red is very expensive, it has 2 different pearl colors and 2 different reds in it. A 1/2 pint of red ( 88.55 ) and a 1/2 pint of black ( 35.95 ) together cost me $134.27, that included Missouri tax. I still have to buy primer, primer sealer and clear coat. I priced getting it painted at a very good shop and they quote me $250 labor if I sanded off all the old paint. But I have a guy that is going to paint it for nothing but I still have to sand off all the paint. Matter of fact I finished the sanding this moring.

one color on mine cost me $300cdn last year. I'm thinking of changing to two tone and that would be $500.

The candy paint is expensive and you need experience doing it if you want to have a perfect match.

The black portion on the fairing is done with metallic vinyl.

I own a graphic shop so I have this stuff for free! sort of free

I had my outer fairing and tour pak painted two tone plus a single color on the luggage rack. They also did a little repair work on both the fairing and pak. Total charge was $400.

How much to paint a fairing

Three years ago I paid $500.00 cash to do a small fibreglass repair and paint my fairing 2 tone with a gold pinstripe. I had a couple other quotes equel or higher than that also. Two shops wanted $2200.00 & $2400.00 to paint my upper & lower fairings, the tour pak & the gas tank.

Hmmm.... Interesting. I've been thinking of a Wide Open Customs fairing. But adding the cost for two tone paint makes it within sight of a Premeux that is color-matched right out of the box.

Decisions, decisions...

Thanks for all the replies. I guess the price is decent. Have never had anything like this painted so had no idea what was reasonable.

I will be into the Harley fairing around $1400 with the eBay fairing parts, steel for the brackets, headlight parts, misc other Harley parts to trim out the fairing. About the same as a Premeux I guess, but I like the layout of the Harley inner fairing better so I am quite happy with that. Just add the time I spent, but that was quite fun doing the fabrication work, a nice change from my real job. :)

I had the same dilemma as you and I finally decided to get the Premeux. The wide open fairing is much cheaper but when I figured in painting, shipping, and duty, it made more sense for me to buy canadian. Especially with the dollar not fairing (no pun intended) very well against the US buck right now.
