luggage rack

I have a question about luggage racks for my 08. Just looking at the pics on ebay.. the oem kaw rack looks like it's right under the pad, while the cobra rack looks like it's down another 4 inches. is the kaw rack to high to effectivly put a bag around? I just wonder if my velcro strip on the bag will be higher than my back pad on the bike...

I have the Kaw rack and tried to put a big saddleman bag on it. The bag sat to high and the racks to small. I would look at other rack options.

I ordered the Cobra rack because of that very reason and it was on sale HERE for 134.96. I see it's always on sale they just keep moving the dates forward. I ordered it Feb 14. and still waiting for it. :-/ I also ordered a Grasshopper backrest on Feb 15 and recieved it over a week ago, so I'm not quite sure what the delay is. ??? No matter as there's still over a meter of BEAUTIFUL white snow here and the temperature is -28C (-18f) this morning. :(" title="" border="0"/>

As far as size goes I think it's pretty much the same size as the Kaw rack.

If you actualy want to use it for anything other than looks get the Cobra. Much more functional.
I bought the Cobra last year, got it within a week of ordering. Only problem was after a couple months the chrome flaked on one of the supports. Emailed Cobra and they gave me a return number ans said they would replace it.
Of course I didn't, I just put some reflective tape over the flaking part.
The point being they stand behind their product. I have a Cobra light bar and the chrome is holding up fine on that.

If you look at my gallery, you'll see a picture of the Cobra luggage rack.

It seems to have a larger surface area than the OEM rack.

The only problem I found with it is that the supports underneath prevent my normal bungee cords from hooking to the sides. I have to loop straps thru the slits and then hook the bungee cords on those, if I want to use bungee cords from left to right.

If I want to use bungee cords from front to back, that wouldn't be a problem.

I also have the Cobra rack because of the pics that show the OEM rack setting too high. I 1500 mile trips with my pack sitting on the rack without any problems.

Had this one book marked myself. :)

Once I installed the Cobra rack I immediately moved the helmet locks.
I was nervous drilling holes in my new chrome but it was no problem.

I really like this idea, I really didn't like the location on the rear crash bars. They are nicely hidden there but a PITA to use.

Thanks skimo.

Those are nice. I'll be putting it on my wish list and that's a great idea to put the helmet hooks on them. Don't really care for where they are now. Man, and girls, I sure do learn a low from you folks. Jamie
