Happy Days are here again.......

It may seem hard to believe but we do get a fair amount of snow in Idaho. So much in fact that I own two snowblowers. A single stage Toro that is 20 years old and works great with a little maintenance, and a 40 inch two stage blower for the front of my Sears lawn tractor. That baby is a blast. Unfortunately it died last winter and I did not feel like fixing it in the dead of winter. It sat all summer and this fall I finally autopsied it and decided that it was in need of a new bearing. During reassembly I found that I needed to shim the drive pulley to the main auger shaft which made me nervous. First snow and sure enough the shims were not enough. So, out came the Toro. Grrrrr. Back to Sears for more parts which I got installed last night only to discover a flat tire, grrrrrrr again. Got it repared today and I have my macho snow blower back. That baby works great!!! Chewed up a huge pile of snow left by some well meaning City employee and completely blew out my driveway in nothing flat. Pray for snow this thing is a blast!! Only way it would be more fun would be if it only had two wheels and saddlebags.

I actually kind of enjoy using our snowblower too. It's amazing the labor that they save, as I've shoveled a lot of snow in my day. It's funny how my dad always said we didn't need a snowblower growing up (I did all the shoveling.) Once I graduated and moved out, he bought a snowblower the next winter!!! Coincidence? I think not!

Some people think using a snow blower is fun ::) NOT FOR ME between my 150+ ft. driveway, my elderly neighbors house and garage and at work I'm sick of it :(" title="" border="0"/> Just snow isn't to bad but with freezing rain and ice mixed in that really sucks :'(

At the other end of the spectrum - I bought a wimpy little electric snow blower, Toro 12 amp, and it has worked like a charm for every snow we've had the last four years, even up to 24" using it three times during the storm. I have a 75' double driveway, north facing and north sloping so is important to get it clear early. The SB is so small and light that is is a snap to manipulate, which overcomes it other short comings. Never plugs and does throw the snow about 10-15 feet when dry. Can easily hang it from the garage wall with one hand and leave plenty of room so I can keep both bikes inside. Neighbor bought a big monster blower for about the same size driveway and seems to take him forever to finish the job and often doesn't use it because of the hassle. Just a food for thought, I was surprised how well it worked having had some earlier experience with the big ones. Wife even uses this one when I'm gone. Happy days indeed.

Yeah, snowblowin' is a freakin' riot. Come on up where I live and spend a winter. We will see how much fun it is then.
I sold my plow truck this fall. Was nickel and dimein' me to death. figured no problem i can snowblow. Didn't want to use the money to put a plow on the truck I have now. Wanted to get Nomad painted instead.
Well Nomad is real pretty but you can bet I will spend the $4000 for a new plow next year.

Hey AGR, what's the problem, I've been out the last two days, a couple hours each. What did you'd do, park in that north facing shed again??

I have two Toro blowers here as well, I like them a lot better than the big machine I use to have. They are a lot lighter and easier to manouver over the big ones and a lot quicker. I had a plow on my garden tractor a few years ago but it didn't have enough weight to push anthing over 3-4 inches. Yesterday it got mild for a few hours and the 4-5 inches of snow was real wet and heavy, The Toro's moved it, but one of them blew a belt. I'll check it out and get it running again. I don't mind clearing snow most of the time but if its another year like last season you can tire of it in a hurry,
