Great pics, jf you get to Indiana we also have great Covered Bridges. Southern Indiana has some great views and roads. We rode 260 miles several weekends ago and never crossed the state line. The movie Bridges of Madison county was shot on sveral of the bridges i the state.

Got to show my ignorance here. Why were the bridges covered like that. Was it a style thing or did it serve a purpose? Can't say I seen or heard of any in UK.

Not style when they were built for horse-drawn wagons. All covered bridges of which I'm aware are in snow and ice climates. The roofs and sides kept snow and ice off the bridge.

Now they are for style. In my area we have three covered bridges, all of which are maintained as historic sites.

OK, thanks for clarifying. We don't get that much snow, but we make up for it in rain!

Love the old Covered Bridges. The town where I graduated HS from had one at the end of the street I lived on.

Looked at the rest of the pictures and PA has some incredibly beautiful riding! Spent some time riding around State College years ago and might have to take another trip this year. Thanks!

the bridges ar covered because the horses were afarid to cross, but the coverings made them look like they were going into a barn. They crossed the bridges then
