Rust

I have a little bit of rust just right inside both mufflers. Not on the chrome but the black around the baffle or silencer. Is it something to deal with or not. If so what is the best method.

Geez all mighty:) that is what got me to this point. And anyway, I like the torque you lose with debaffling. And I know as I have done, err, wuite a few sets.

Todd made reference to it once. Keep it stock, or as he hinted to, if you are going to replace your pipes you need to do it all the way, or it defeats the purpose. Stock is not really that bad.

Rust

You get rust because the muffler is made of steel and water is a by-product of the combustion process. Water + steel = rust. You could get a small wire brush, like a toothbrush, but with wire bristles, and brush off the surface rust, then spray the surface with a high-temperature paint, like header or bbq paint.

As Neil Young said "Rust never sleeps..."

Rust

I've noticed slight hints of rust showing on the inside of my lower windscreen brackets. I will stop by the dealer and ask that they be replaced.

Rust

Is this engine taken on short runs? Yes Water is made and in short runs won't get a chance to dry up.... it takes heat and time to get the muffs dried up..

You can wire brush the rust a bit and then try any one of the spray rust converters.. Then maybe a 1 step epoxie paint 'might' top coat the rust converter. It will for a while, but maybe not for so long as the bike exists.

For those concerned about rust, beware there is no tail lamp gasket at the fender! The metal to paint fit will crack the paint, and water will get under that mount. Once the water does it will bleed rust under the paint.

It isn't very hard to make a gasket either, but if rust started you better deal with it, by sealing the area from more water before you slam a gasket on there.
