Let's talk tires------Again !!
Well I've put this off for as long as I can and still haven't decided what to buy. I have a mind to stay with the Bridgestone's because I haven't got anything to compare them to,...AND I wasn't disappointed with anything {other than} maybe the milage. I got just over 16,000 Kms. which is less than 10,000 miles. Is that an average number of miles on the rear tire that's had the tire pressure kept up? Those of you who have purchased other tires such as Cobras or the Metzlers, how do you like them? The Bridgestones are a cheaper priced tire.
Also did you buy bias or radial. Any thing else you you want to say about tires???

Purchased a rear Cobra but didn't install it yet. Still have a couple of thousand left on the stone.

I just put the Avon Cobras on mine. Expensive, yes. So far I'm very pleased with them. They stick very well for one thing, and second the road noise from the stock Bridgstones I was running is almost completely gone on the Cobras.
I've only had them on less than 2500 miles. They're holding up well enough so far.

Ive worn out two sets of Metzelers on my bike, and I didn't like the second pair as good as the first set. Im not sure why there is a difference but they where the same size tire, except for being whitewalls. I still want to stay with whitewalls next tire change, which will be sometime this season. I will be looking at the Avons and Dunlop Elites and hope they have a WWW that fits.

Let's talk tires------Again !!
This happens to be a big thing with me. I've tried several brands on Vulcans and my Nomad, I ride year-round, wet or dry, and pull a trailer often. The 'stones (just my opinion mind you), total waste of your good, hard earned dollars. Radials, unless you do front and rear together...dangerous. I put a radial on the rear, it was not happy at high speed especially pulling the trailer. Thought I would never wear that thing out! When I replaced it with Bias ply again, it was like riding a dream bike, ...again! My tire of choice, hands down is the Metzler ME 880. Carves through the twisties very well, nice and sticky in wet or dry. No, they're not the cheapest and will return average wear, but you know, I figure that tires would have to be the stupidest place to skimp on my ride, eh

Avon Venom's - 25,000 km rear - not to wear bars yet but since it was winter figured what the heck - change it. Avon Venom front - it's got 12,000 km now - not showing any wear yet. And that's with alot of miles 2 up with the trailer. Next time I would go 130 / 90 - 16 front - same as new Voyager. Back is the same size as 1500 Goldwing - weight rated for heavy load. Not sure about the Cobra's? Will wait and see how everyone else does with them.

Me, I went with the Dunlop E3. Had the E2's on my previous bike and liked them. I also went with the bias 160/80 for the rear. Love them. I have been measuring the wear on them and they seem to be wearing excellent. As far as traction, if I felt stable driving in the toad strangler of a rainstorm that I did last year, that's good enough for me. Probably will stick with the E3's again.

I still have my stock 'Stones, but I would have to agree with Triguy that tires are not the things to go cheap on. When I'm ready (not for awhile), I will probably go with the Avon Cobras.

My Nomad had stock stones on it when I bought it. Changed them out last month with Cobras. Had almost 11,000 on the stones. I can't really compare very accurately because the stones were wore out when I got it but I really like the ride of the Cobras. I went with radials. The place i got mine were only about $30 difference in all three of the non-stone brands, Dunlop, Avon, and Metz. The Dunlop and Avons were nearly the same. The metz were cheaper but were always backordered.

My original Stones didn't last no time, maybe 6 or 7000 miles running 40/40. Replaced them with Dunlop 404s (twice) and they didn't do much better. Then I went with Michelin Commanders and just have replaced them after getting 13,000+ miles. Went back with the Commanders again this time. Weighing 240lbs and running 40/40 and sometimes riding 2-up, I figure 13,000 miles on a set of m/c tires is not too bad.
