1500 front tire change (axle position)

I just put a new tire on the front but was curious if it matters where the hole in the front axle lines up. The factory manual doesn't say. It says to put it in and tighten the axle nut to 80 ft lbs and the set bolt to 25 ft lbs. If you don't tighten the set bolt first, the axle wants to turn the speedometer drive when you tighten the big axle nut which could damage the tabs for it. My axle bolt hole is parrallel to the ground not straight up and down. Does it matter? ???

....zoom...I put mine horizontal. I use a screwdriver through the hole to hold the axle while I tighten the nut. If you put the hole vertical, its pretty tough to get anything through the hole to hold the axle. Works for me! :)

The hole is for any socket extension you can get to pass thru it, and a wrench. I would use what you have that fits and can get a hand on. You can also snug the locking nuts some to help resist the turning axel, but loosen then again to test, before you lock all the rest down.

Where the hole is won't matter. Make damn sure the spacers are on the right sides too, as I think i recall each one is different..
