Question on putting the bike on the Jack
Morning all,
I have Idaho Jack's adapter on the way. What I was curious about is this. 1. When y'all are raising the bike with the jack, where do you run the straps to secure it to the jack. 2. Can someone give me a rough indication of the balance point on the Nomad for the jack? I ask because I was doing some routine stuff with my wife's C50 this weekend and used my jack and it took several tries to get the balance point correct. With a 500lb bike, it's annoying, with an 750lb bike, it's a handful. Plus, once I got that bike up and strapped it down, it sure felt wobbly up there. Any advice is appreciated. Question on putting the bike on the Jack
Balance point depends on your jack's width. I put the rear rail of my jack just completely to the rear of two jacking lugs (where you put the nails.) If you have a 1600, the swingarm's longer & the rear tire is heavier, so maybe a 1/2" to 1" farther back than that.
Remember that if you're doing the rear tire and driveshaft service, that you'll be removing a lot of weight from the rear end of the bike, so it's OK if it balances a little tail heavy at first. Eventually you need to put a big block (I have a wood box) under the front wheel to stabilize the bike. I put the straps from the welded loops on the jack to the front & rear crash bars. 4 places. |

Question on putting the bike on the Jack
Here's a photo of a 1500 tied down, but notice that I did not have the adapter in this photo and the jack is more far forward as a result. This bike sat a bit "tail down" untill we stripped it down.:

Thanks Cadmann. They say a pic is worth a thousand words. That last one did the trick perfectly.
