A job I can live with

In another thread, SWB related how the people he works for did devious sh*t to make him uncomfortable about riding motorcycles. I feel for him, because I've been there too.

I really like my job, but it's been better than good for me because I'm seriously lucky to work for guys who are not only nice to everyone, but who have both owned & ridden motorcycles. It's when I read stories like SWB's that I really appreciate just how lucky I am to work for guys like these. It wasn't always that way for me.

I remember working for one guy back in the 70's who hated smoking, and he never failed to pull crap like that, dedicated to make anybody who smoked miserable. He'd had a serious scare on a motorcycle and given up bikes, so he made anybody who rode a motorcycle miserable about the fact. He'd had a hot affair with one of the gals at work and it flopped, so he made anybody else that had a romance with someone else at work miserable about the fact.

I'll bet you're getting the idea that this guy was a total a-hole, but I've just scratched the surface of his insufferable character. This is how bad it really was:

He used to fly a private plane. At one point he and his wife had decided to get a quickie divorce, and he was flying the two of them to Reno for the proceedings. Half way over the mountains from California his (soon to be ex) wife hated him so much that she pulled out a gun and tried to shoot him while they were flying, and she had no idea in the world how to land that plane!

I can sympathize......

The first time I rode my bike to work the owner let out with the "There are two types of motorcycle riders, those that have been in an accident and those that are going to have an accident"

Just added another mark in the reason to find a new job column.

I think Wayne (Wayne's World) said it best with the immortal...

sphincter says what??

My current boss made the comment the other day that anyone that rides a motorcycle needs to talk with another lady's (who works there) husband. He just got ran over by a semi that came over on him and is just now learning to walk.

I'm waiting for him to say something to me, but so far he hasn't. I'm prepared. He's an advid biker (pedal kind), and I got some news for him on safety of a two wheel pedal bike on the road vs. a motorcycle.

I guess I have it pretty good. I love my job (tool & die maker), but I hate my work hours (2nd shift, been there 21+ years and still don't have enough seniority to get on 1st). My supervisor is an avid biker (only rides Beamers),and we talk bikes often, and sometimes for an hour or so. There are quiet a few who ride, so nobody gets any flak about being on a bike.

So far.....the flack I get mostly is "weather" related. We have several people here who ride and one who doesn't wear a helmet. He's the one that gets most of the flack, so I just kind of ignore it. Once people find out that I live 90 miles away, they tend to understand why I choose to ride.

The guy who runs my company is an avid rider and loves my Nomad. Sometimes I'm allowed to take the day off and just go ride and it's never a problem. The owner also doesn't care if I log on and check messages on this site throughout the day, and I like that.

The owner seems to be a great guy, smart and personable, and has a very nice wife who is easy on the eyes and a bit of a flirt with me. She doesn't do it to anyone else, but she flashes the boobs at me sometimes!

She's even gone on motorcycle rides with me.

About the only downside is that the boss is pretty opinionated and it's kind of boring when there is nobody besides myself to help carry a conversation. Other than that, I love where I work.

Oh, and I work for myself ;)
