Trailering, Neutral or 1st

Am trailering the Nomad to N. Carolina this week
and it's loaded and ready to go. My Brother-in-law
who is hauling a Gold Wing suggested that I put
the bike in neutral to prevent a strain on the gears
in case it is rocking back and forth a little. I think
it would be better in 1st gear because it doesn't put
all the strain on the straps and besides I have the
bike secured well. Would appreciate some input
from the group.
Thank You,

Don
