V&H bagger baffle, can you turn around?
Pulled the baffles out of my V&H and I see that the louvers are facing with the openings towards the exit. If this was switched around so they acted like scoops, would this quiet it down a little? Bad idea? Not sure.

I tried that with the V&H baffles on my 800, for the same reason. It just looked like it would work better the other way around.
After I cut them, turned them around, welded them back together, re-wrapped them... I couldn't tell there was any difference in the sound level. It ate the baffle-wrap out faster though

Funny , I tried that as well on my 01 Nomad . I noticed the same thing and thought what the hay ! I drilled a hole in the the other end of the baffle to secure them in place with a bolt ( no nuts welded at that end ) . It didn't sound that different at all .
How many times in our lives do we wonder " What would happen if ! " Life would be no fun !!! |

Im thinking about going back to the stock mufflers on my 1700. After 523 miles today my head is ringing. The V&H slipons are just too loud after a few hunderd miles. My 1500 is sweet sounded and perfect with the baffle wrapped in stove rope.

I bought a cherry bomb muffler to use for extending the baffle and then I’m going to try the stove rope. Hopefully it quiets it down even a little.

I welded short drag pipe baffles into the front of my V&H baffles. The tabs could be bent back out of the way, until I had exactly the sound I was looking for.

OK, since the membership has changed, I'll explain the Wompus mod. It's basically an old hot rodder trick to quiet things down a bit. Go to the store and buy 6-10 large fender washers. Cut the washers in half. Pull your baffle, cut a slot big enough for the washer to snuggly fit into, then another slot a couple of inches away on the opposite side. Do this with 6-8 half washers and weld them into the baffle pipe. Get a couple of 1 3/4" exhaust turn down tips and weld one on the end, directing the flow to the side. You'll drop more db's than you will playing with the baffles any other way. I have a set of V&H Baggers on my 03 Nomad the Mike put together for his bike. I can hear the music from the stereo while riding.

I have Cobra True Duals, and the baffles are welded in and non-removeable. The packing blew out over the years, and since there is no way to remove them, I used these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I removed the billet end caps from the pipes and slipped these into the back of the baffles. A bit of ultra high temp RTV held them in place, and then simply reinstalled the billet tips. The bike is now just a bit throatier than stock, but not much louder. The good news is that I don't have the heat from the goats belly, the larger diameter head pipes and mufflers flow exhaust better than stock, (along with the right side intake and FI2000) and my wife no longer complains about the noise when she is following me at 70 MPH+. I have long ago decided I don't need to have a bike that attracts attention due to the noise from the pipes...
