No neutral light, won't start

Hello, Please Help! I just bought a 1999 Nomad last Thursday & have been riding problem free until today. I came home and parked the Nad.
I went out later for a ride and the neutral light will not come on, the bike is in neutral, and when I push the starter button nothing happens. I have lights & horn, I checked all of the fuses, cleaned the battery post, & all wires hooked to them. If someone can help I would appreciate it. Thank you in advance for your help.

1st make sure the red kill switch is in the RUN position. Check the connection at the clutch lever where there is another switch and put the kickstand up (maybe the bike thinks its not in N for some reason)

Look in front of & under the clutch for the safety switch. Pull the clutch & make sure the little button does come out when you engage the clutch. The wired connection on my bike was ok, but the button was stuck in the housing. A rap with a screwdriver handle & a shot of w-d 40 solved the problem.

No neutral light, won't start

Hello Top Cat and all, I have been blowing the 10amp ING. fuse.
It has gotten worse over the past couple days,(blowing more fuses)
if I let the bike sit for some time, and put a new fuse in it will start.
I can run over to the store, and may or may not make it back home.
Today it blew another fuse, and has not started at all, had to have my son bring a trailer to get her back home. I would love it if one of you guys can point me in the right direction.
Thanks for your help.

You may have to many accessories connected to the ignition switch, try to find out what you have connected to that circuit and isolate it. Or you may have a bared wire somewhere that shorts on bumps and vibrations. It can be a time consuming process but check all plugs , connections etc.

Take a good look where the wiring harness crosses over the top rear of the rear valve cover. Lots of shorts have occured there.

Hello guys, I had several wires that were put together with butt connectors that I didn't like the looks of, so I got me a roll around stool and sat down for the long haul and began to cut them all out, than soldered them together and put heat shrink to them. I took the gas tank off to see what kind of mess that was under there, well there was a small air compressor WITH A BARE WIRE, glad I took the tank off. So I cut the bad out and put a new spade connector on. I rode for about a hour, and have turned the bike on and off about a dozen times, so far life is good. Thank you all for your input, and help.

Sounds like this was an obvious case of butchery. I think I'd take a good look at the gooseneck wiring, in the headlight bucket, under the seat, and under the rear fender as well. Never know what you might find.

Better to find it now too, rather than in the middle of Death Valley or something. ;)

(Yeah, I know you're a long way from Death Valley. I was born in Covington BTW.)
