Nomad low fuel light
Hello fellow forum members... Does anyone know how far one can expect to be able to travel once the low fuel light illuminates on a 2005 Nomad? I am fairly new to motorcycling and have not yet let my bike get low enough on fuel to see the light come on. I would like to know how much distance I might be able to travel in the event I get caught away from a gas station and it comes on. Thanks! Doug

Should be about a gallon left. I see it and fill up asap as I've run out of gas four times in the last year trying to judge the damn thing. That last gallon seems to go faster than the first four+

I have been thinking about packing along a can of gas and running it out of gas just to test the light. Pay attention to when the light actually stays on and how many miles I can go. Then pour in a gallon, get to the closest gas station and see just how much fuel it takes to fill to my usual level. I'm not sure that I run with the full 5.3 gallons.

I've heard too many Nomad stories about running out of gas within 10 miles of the low fuel light that I pull over immediately! the thought of pushing a 800+ lbs motorcycle is not intertaining to say the least......

Hello Ron Idaho and Blowndodge, Thanks for the enlightenment with regards to how much fuel might be left. Don't think I will be taking many chances as it does not sound like fun to push the heavy beast after it runs out of fuel. I will be careful not to try runing on the low fuel light based upon the advice you all have shared. Thanks! Doug

I noticed the light will first come on then off at times then on/off alot before steady on, so very confusing. not sure each bar equals one gallon either, least in my calculates it don't.

I noticed on the last big trip I took it came on a few times and it would flicker on and off for the first 10 miles or so. It seemed like I could go around 30 miles. If you never want to run out of gas stop every 150 miles just to be safe. Your butt & legs will need a stretch anyway. I found the tank holds more gas if you fill it when its on the kick stand. I used to fill it while I was sitting on it and I would never even get 4 gallons in it.

Good point Wolfman. these old bones need a good stretch after 2 straight hours in the saddle! We are talking about our motorcycles right??? :-)

Nomad low fuel light
Hey everyone, Thanks for all the information. I did not even know it first came on and off then went steady as I have not let the fuel get that low yet. This time around, I will let the fuel get low enough to at least make sure the light & sensor works properly. Knowing what everyone has come to experience in the normal behavior of the sensor, I will now know what to expect. Thanks again to all for responding.... Doug in Oregon

Yeah My light comes on about the 150 mark depending on how i ride. It seems like ever time it comes on and i go to fill up I have about -1 gallon and according to the owners manual light should come on with .08 gallon left. I'm like most and always fill up around 150 miles becasue this old fart needs a good stretch by then anyways.
