Tires

On the person who wrote about tires. He stated that he put 180/70X16 mitzler tires on the rear of his bike which I belive to be "RUBY EARL" I was wondering did he have to modify his rear or did he have any trouble mounting these larger tires or was there no problem at all????
Thanks!

That would be King Trip! I don't believe any mod required on Nomad 1600's! I ride a '99 1500 and top out at 160's..... The Tripster will fill you in shortly I'm sure! Welcome to the forum btw!

Tires

I used the Metz radial on the rear of my '05 and it seems there is more distance from tire to drive shaft than the OEM Stones it came with. I like the ME 880's but there sure doesn't seem to be much rubber touching the pavement when I look at the dirty treads after riding thru a little dirt. I guess all bike tires are that way but I now see why there is not much grab when the rear brake is applied. LOL

Tires

I know we already had a thread about this but I would really like to just hear how people feel about the quality and durability of their tires.
I have Stones on mine, stock size and I like them, but I'm always wondering if there isn't a better tire available.

I will need new tires in the spring. Having a hard time deciding on what to go with. :-/

METZLER, the stock stones suck. When you change to a different brand you will understand how bad they suck.[/quote:vq0e0kyn]

1+/\ I agree big time. I went with the meztler 180/70R-16 on the rear and it fits our 06-07 Nomads like a glove. No rubbing or modding needed. My bridges last till 12K not bad but metzler is a much better tire IMO. Grabs better and is a little softer than bridgestones. Hope it helps good luck ...

Tires

I put ME880's on my 06. No modification needed. Radial on the back, bias-ply on the front. I have 9,000 miles on them. I like the way they track through corners and have found them good in wet weather. I much prefer their cornering to the OEM tires. I would say they are good touring tires. They sing a little in corners. I'm not a peg grinder in corners, so I can't say how they will work for someone who is more aggressive. (Heck, it is hard too find a corner on most Michigan roads.)

When I ot my Nomad, it had Dunlop 404's on it..... they rode great but were noisey! I played around with a Maxxis front and Duro rear.... you all know what happened.......never again....

I have the ME 880's on there now!
