Just joined up, directed here from Vulcanforums. They said most of the 1600 riders were over here.
Test rode a 1500 Nomad today and liked the ride. Some issues with the bike itself so I'm still looking. Have a possible lead on a 1600 to look at next week. Just interested in some firsthand feedback of the 1500/1600 VN for the good, bad and ugly so I can make an informed decision. Thanks in advance. Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Welcome to the site. Friendly folks here.
1500/1600 is a great bike with proven reliability. Nice bikes with low miles are easy to find at reasonable prices. I would not consider anything but a near perfect bike. I have an 06 Nomad with lots of extras and 15k miles. If I were trying to sell it, it might bring 6 to 7k and 4 to 5k in a dealer trade offer. Hope that info helps you. |

I purchased an 01 1500 Nomad for $4000 last year. It had 18,000 miles. Love the bike, it now has 35,0000 miles. Good Luck with your hunt.

Welcome to the forum from Delaware. I would prefer the 1600, but you need to compare and ride both of the bikes you're considering to see which is the better deal for you. One thing to consider is the seat. Most people don't like the stock seat, so you could possibly save money, if one of them has an after market seat on it.

I bought an '08 1600 Nomad new and put 54,000 trouble free miles on it....minus a fuel pump replacement that was covered under an extended warranty. It was a fantastic ride...one you will enjoy immensely. I traded it this year for a 2012 Voyager. Welcome to the forum from the great Pacific NW...

I bought my 07 1600 new and have 87,000 miles on it now.
With routine maintenance, either by you or your mechanic, it will be a pretty trouble free ride. I left mine pretty much stock and have only had to replace the fuel pump so far. Welcome to the forum.

Not many issues. just thinking about what we have seen on here: Early 1500's had a plastic oil gear issue, (99) I think but most were changed to steel by Kawasaki. Fuel pumps sometimes develop a whine, clutch springs some times wear early, a few bikes have developed a rad leak, seal for the push rod from the slave cylinder to clutch sometimes leak, a few ujoint and or drive shaft spline issues.
Not much else goes wrong. Not everyone has all these issues, but they are common to the 1500 and 1600 I believe. The fixes are relatively straight forward and documented here. Happy hunting and welcome.

Welcome from So La. Cam chains getting loose and needing a $30 part seems pretty common. I have 55k on my '01 and I'm having some starting problems, but it looks like it will be an easy fix. My opinion, best thing about the Nomad, aside from being as dependable as a Farm-All tractor and twice as comfortable, is this website and the folks on it. Nice folks, helpful, and a bunch of know how. This site has saved me a bunch of time and money.
Thanks for your time

Welcome from Oklahoma. Got mine 6 months ago, it's an 08 and it only had 7800 miles on it. The guy that had it before me put on pipes, fuel processor, grips, intake, light bar and more. All I had to do was ride and change the oil. Great bikes and a fun forum. You will like it here.

Greetings from Las Vegas! There are lots of good deals out there on used Nomads. I bought my 2003 Nomad 1500 FI with 11,000 miles on it for $5000. The guy I bought it from saved me a ton of money by basically adding everything I would have added myself. , , . Vance and Hines exhaust, Power Commander, Hypercharger, (swapped for Chuckster's Intake!) Lightbar and a couple of grand's worth of chrome! The bike came with all the maintenance records and I have access to the mechanics that know the bike, although I plan on doing all the maintenance I can That's where this forum and Gadget's page are so valuable. I love my ride! Good luck in your search!

Welcome to the forum. I think there are a couple of Nomads for sale here in the
classified section. Worth a look.
