CB Problem
Hate to post the same topic on multiple forums, but had no luck on another so here goes:
Have had the CB on an 11 Voyager for about 8 months. Works great. Yesterday, I had some kind of problem with receiving. As we were leaving on a group ride I did a radio check. Everyone heard me just fine. But the 2 guys I tested with sounded like they were on a different channel, bleedover we used to call it. They were also very weak. Never heard any transmissions on any channel from anyone. I've gone over all connections and tested both mine and the wife's headsets (she didn't ride today). Radio/Ipod reception is also okay. CB antenna wire also seems okay. Didn't do any electronic testing, just visual. All wires seems fine. I left the squelch wide open and only heard faint, not loud static. Any suggestions??? I would recheck the antenna and if it is ok try disconnecting from power and then reconnect to power. or if your CB has a reset on it reset it.

I'll give it a shot. But it turns on, transmits, changes channels and the squelch will open. It's just on the receiving end.
I'd also like to know what the warranty is from Kawasaki. I'm getting the runaround. Some papers I have says 12 months. The dealer said Kawasaki said it's only 90 days from them and 12 months from the manufacturer. The manufacturer says they don't do warranty work for Kaw. |

A couple months back my iPod started to distort real bad. I could disconnected/reconnected the iPod and it was good for about 20 minutes and the problem would return. I tried a hard reset and even another iPod with the same results. I finally unhooked the module and plugged it back in and it’s been fine ever since. What I’m getting at is a complete power reset may be in order for the CB module and maybe even the radio. I would disconnect the negative on the battery for a few minutes and see if that helps. Ideally it would be nice to swap out a known working module to see if that solves your problem but that may be difficult. If the power reset doesn’t do it, I would disconnect/reconnect all the connections related to that module and try again.
What sucks is the warranty on Kawasaki accessories is only 90 days and that module costs quite a bit.

I'll start unplugging manana. The only warranty info I have is a little warranty booklet that came with the radio and other audio gear, headsets, connectors etc. It plainly states "Kawasaki Motors warrants for a period of twelve (12) months from the date of initial purchase from an authorized Kaw dealer that each new Kaw Premium Audio System Component shall be free, under normal use and maintenance, from any defect in material and workmanship' etc, etc. Nowhere is written 90 days on the warranty. You can't even find warranty info on the Kaw site. The dealer I bought the CB from said Kaw told them 90 days. I'm waiting on a phone call from them.

The warranty info I found was on Kawasaki’s site under accessories. If you go to the accessories section for the Voyager, it’s the last option that says warranty statement. Here’s the link.
http://www.kawasaki.com/DefaultFrame.aspx?strContentURL=/Site/common/kawasaki_limited_warranty.htm You may have to present your paper warranty in person to get the ball rolling. I wonder it Kawasaki recently changed it to 90 days from one year. If that’s the case, you shouldn’t be footing the bill for a new one but I’ve got a feeling it could be a hassle to get it replaced. This is where you find out what kind of dealer you have.

Thanks for finding that. Fortunately, the dealer called back and they found the same 12 month warranty details in another CB they had in stock. So they FAXed it to KAW and I'm waiting to hear back how to proceed. I did just disconnect the battery but it didn't help.

I just read that warranty statement. It only addresses accessories. My warranty book is specifically for 'Premium Audio System'. Not sure if they changed things or what. Either way, 90 days for something that costs around $800 is not very good.

Well after a few weeks of wrangling with Kawasaki, the dealer came through and got me another CB radio. All is well so the problem was definitely with the original unit. Apparently there's a couple of different warranties with Kaw products. The website shows 90 days for accessories. I have the warranty booklets that came with the CB, headsets and connections even the rear speakers purchased just last week. The title of the warranty booklet is for the "Premium Audio System' and clearly states that the warranty is for 12 months. Kaw told the dealer, Leeson's Arctic Cat in W.VA, that the warranty for the CB was only 90 days. The dealer got a warranty booklet from a CB they had in stock and had to FAX it to Kaw for proof of the one year warranty. Thanks to Leeson's for the good service. The CB was just re-installed and seems just fine.
Now the next dilemma. What are these two parts in the picture? They were left after I finished the install. I don't know if they were in the box with the CB or something I forgot to re-install. They're some kind of a washer/bushing. May belong in either the lower fairing, speaker or headlight area. Any ideas? ![]() |

Never took off the bags. Just the lower fairing to get to the CB. And didn't even take it off, just opened it up along with the left speaker enclosure and headlight. Everything went back together okay which is why I thought maybe the parts came with the CB but I didn't need them.
What and where are the 'isolation dampers'? There's no leftover grommets. |

Mystery solved thanks to all your collective efforts. The parts go into the grommets that hold the top of the lower fairing. For those that don't know, this is where you attach the CB module. Due to the angle of the dangle, these spacers easily fall out as they don't have a tight fit in the grommets to hold them in. I removed the CB module and it was obvious where they went.
Thanks again for all your suggestions and help ![]() |
