06 Nomad Speedo

I have a bar mounted tach on my bike that has a blue back light, like it and wonder if I can change out the bulbs for the stock speedo to blue?? Anyone done this?? If so, did you go with an LED replacement? and where did you buy from, thanks in advance for everyone's time in responding.

Ray

You could just take out the bulbs and spray a light coat of blue paint on the bulbs, or use nail polish. I've done this sort of thing a few times with good results, but bear in mind the output will be slightly dimmer.

Unless you want to keep the blue, another other option is see if you can get access to the tach light and see what it is.

Sometimes they are just bare globes with covers which give them the colour, such as those supplied with Monster tachs for cars, so you can match it to the dash lights.

Just a thought.

I didn't know you could even access a bulb on the speedo. I thought they were built in LEDs. I generally leave the speedo on the tank when I remove the tank (pretty much weekly) but I could swear there was only the hole for the wires on the back.

Here is a list of the components in the meter unit from the schematic.
Some of the lights are listed as bulbs and some are listed as LEDs.
Your right Chris the iluminator does seem to be a led, but that doesn't mean a determined person could not get at it or swap it out.

Having seen discussions of tank bras, I confess I opened this thread with some trepidation.

I took my spedo apart a few weeks ago because, I wanted to change the color of my spedo lighting too. I found out that the lights inside are all LED's that are sodered to the circut board. The LED's are yellow so putting blue paint on them might make them shine green. I'm not very good with circut boards so I just put everything back together.

BTW There are 7 or so small LED's that circle a clear plastic housing. The LED's light up the plastic which in turn lights up the spedo.
