Royal Purple 75W-90

Decided to change my final gear oil before Palestine now that I've run Dino between 600 and 3100 miles. Picked up Royal Purple 75W-90. It meets the GL-5 spec, but I havn't seen multiple gear weight like that before. Is it ok to run in my final drive?

Thanks...

I'm no oil expert but I'll put in my 2 cents worth. The Kawasaki service manual calls for GL-5 EP Hypoid oil in the rear end. It also calls out temp ranges to use the SAE 80 below temps of 5 degrees C, or the SAE 90 above temps of 5 degrees C. Now given the fact that the Royal Purple is a GL-5 and is also basically a synthetic 75 weight oil with properties of a 90 weight oil when hot you have the best of both worlds. Short answer I would'nt hesitate to use it. UMMV

Thanks! I was guessing it would be ok, but it's better to know. I'd hate to get down the road and hear grinding...

I'm using the Royal Purple 75W-90. I now have 17,500 on the bike and no problems. So far, so good.

Feeling even better - thanks Paul!

U going to Palestine? I was at Sam many years ago, for 5 years. You should be closer than we are in Houston :)

Food for thought. I've never heard of anyone in 35 years of motorcycling have a final drive problem from mixing different gear oils or using the cheapest hypoid oil available. The only purpose for this kind of oil is to cushion the meshing of the teeth. period.

I don't know yet. We have some conflicts with kid stuff and with getting my dad situated with assisted living in San Antonio. If we can work it out we would love to go. I probably won't know 'til the last minute.
