What do you set you shocks at for 2 up riding? Wife wants to start riding with me. I use #2 setting for myself. Should I just go up to #4 setting?

This is an old thread might help some http://kawanow.proboards77.com/index...6945131&page=1
Trial and error works good. I put it on 4 with a little air in the shocks if my wife hopps on When I ride single I've normally been riding it on number 3 but after re reading that thread I'm going to try number 2 with a little air |

I played around with my shock settings and found #3 with about 35lbs of air works best. I used to bottom out on bumps before when it was on #2 and no air. Thats either solo riding or with a passenger.

I'm confused because I was riding around today on #3 with no air and bottoming out was the least of my worries a couple of times I got bounced off of the seat! (and I'm slightly over 200). I think I might have it over dampend like BD was talking about

Well, I'm 245 and we wont discuss my wife's weight. For two up I use # 4 with 20 lbs. of air in the shocks.

I read all the posts from the other thread that wolfman gave a link to last night. Since I don't have a pump that will work, I just went with #4 setting for our ride today. It seemed ok, no complaints from the wife, so it is all good.
I guess I'll have to get a pump at one of the local MC shops or order it online. There is a Harley dealer about 2 miles from here so I may swing by on my way home and pick one up if the Kawa shop doesn't have any.

I have settled on 18lbs of air in the shocks with the rear off the ground. II setting for 1 up and III or IV for 2 up when I remember to change it.

What sort of pump do you recommend to pressurize the rear shocks, Ive been told not to use a compressor.

Use a pump designed ONLY for air shocks if you want to get it accurate NEVER A COMPRESSOR...you can go by your HD shop if you have one over there...They are around $40 US dollars here.......or, a mountain biking shop...and get one. It takes only a small amount of air to reach the pressure, and these pumps will not allow any air to leak out when you disconnect. Cant really use a bicycle tire pump either...just a small amount escaping is several lbs. of pressure.

The wife and I are about 450lb combined... No luggage #3 @ 30psi...with luggage #4 @ 35psi. Just me I run #2 @ 25psi but it's stiff.

I sort of figured that given the max recommended load is 407 lbs (VN1600-Dx), when you're near that you should be at #4 and close to 42 (40 to be on the safe side) psi. I ride two-up at #3 and 40psi.
