Tinted windshield?
So I'm gonna order a new windshield to replace the one I toasted recently. I was thinking about going tinted instead of clear.
Anybody got pics they'd be willing to post showing off their tinted screen? Bonus points if it's the light tint on a black bike. It's been suggested that the tint helps hide small nicks and scratches. Any truth in that? Post 'em if you got 'em! Thanks, Kev Login or Register to Remove Ads |

I have a light grey tint Clearview shield. You don't even notice the tint unless you really look for it. It is nothing like tinted windows on a car.

Generally, tinted windshields aren't just films like on cars. The tint is impregnated in the plexi so it will still be tinted if you happen to put a scratch in it. Because of this, they do a very good job of hiding minor scratches. Major gouges just can't be hid.

I have had a tinted windshield on all my fairings, haven't seen many bikes with a fully tinted windshield without a fairing, like a Nomad or Road King.
Tint is nice, since I don't look through my windshields it has no impact on my visibility.

I would be uneasy about a tinted screen on a Nomad. I agree with CJ that you look over the screen, but his is a short screen. If you are replacing it with a screen the height of the OEM Nomad screen, then although you look over it, you will have a significant portion of you forward view that is tinted, which could be an issue in the dark for road hazards. If you are getting a shorter one, then probably not an issue.

I have a tinted Clearview on my fairing, and it has it's pros & cons.
Some of the pros: it does cut down on glare in the daytime. At night, if an oncoming car has bright lights (HID), you can duck down a little to look thru the shield and it does cut down on the glare. And it looks good on the bike. Some of the cons: It shows things like bugs more visibly. It does darken the area at night that you see thru the shield. Overall, I do like the tinted shield, and I'm on my second one.

I have a dark tinted on my fairing. I like it for the looks, but wouldn't want to have to look through it.
For the record; my windshield comes just to the bridge of my nose when I sit in a relaxed position so I can see over it most all the time. I only use it to deflect air and rain. I rode the bike in a horrendous storm down at the National in Maggie Valley and had to lean over to look through it to avoid some of the downpour occurring. It not good to look through in that situation, and at night during a bad storm it was impossible to look-thru. A clear one would have been better by far. So from a practical standpoint, get a clear windshield that you can use when you most need to -- and if you ride enough, you will have to eventually. If you want the bike to just look good... get a tinted shield. Your choice. ![]()

I have an 8" recurve light medium tint that I purchased from Longridershield.com that seems to be working well. If interested in a photo go to the 1500-1600 forum under Memphis Shades questions. Sorry having problems trying to download photos.
