I am one of the few who gets out and practices in a parking lot anyway, so it helped to have someone there pointing out things I was doing wrong, as I was doing it. I was only using my last 3 fingers on the break and I had no idea I was doing that. The worst thing about it was they kept putting the worst 2 riders first, they were the smallest bikes, a sportster and shadow, they should have been able to manuver ok but they didn't.

expect to sign up for the ERC course here in MD in the spring. I've got to get some more instructions on cornering, swerving - especially on the nomad.

Good for you, Spooky! I have respect and admiration for an experienced rider who also has the ability to realize that practice and instruction are always needed. Proper riding skills are perishible, so if not reminded and reinforced it's easy to slack off and get into bad habits. Kudo's to you for taking it upon yourself to: (1) take the course; and (2) be open-minded enough to accept instruction after accomplishing your level of riding ability.
Best, Daryl |

With the nomads adjustable levers, you can certainly make it so that even in an emergency stop your finger hasn't prevented full braking. I brake with my thumb and index finger still on the grip. For me it's more natural and easier to lift the last three fingers onto the lever. I know that with enough practice I could teach my hands (through muscle memory) to do all four fingers. But it wouldn't improve safety at all, if the levers are adjusted right, so why put yourself out? |

Remeber the MSF is , for the most part, teaching novice riders. Using just a couple of fingers is a bad habit to get into early on. Experienced riders have been down the road of experience awhile and know what it takes to stop their own bikes in the shortest possible distance......or should know what it takes.
